Two and a half feet. That is the distance Gabrielle was able to cover with her new hemi walker before needing to sit down in the wheelchair. I was on one side and the therapist was on the other while we steadied her gait and the office receptionist was behind us with the wheelchair in case she needed to sit down right away. Unlike with the parallel bars, working with the hemi walker is a three person assist so we will need to be doing it in the therapy office until I have a suitable harness for her to utilize with our newly installed overhead rail above her parallel bars.
It is looking like the mixed martial arts gym where Baron trains is going to close. The proprietor is currently incarcerated for a parole violation, the electricity has been off for months due to a dispute with the power company, the rent is two months late, and the proprietor’s reputation has been irreparably tarnished before our small rural community on the town Facebook group for his irresponsible and distasteful personal conduct. Not wanting to put an end to the rhythm that Baron and his training partners have developed, I offered to have their core group continue their training in our former store showroom.
Between this and the removal of the front porch it is looking like reopening the showroom as a movement and meditation studio is moving up in my projected timeline. To accomplish this I need to have a new covered front porch built with a ramp and I need to convert my office into an accessible washroom. Modern windows have been ordered all around and the old oil stove could be reconnected before I have a wood stove installed. If I don’t get a loan or assistance it’ll take me about a year and a half to save what I need for those repairs before I could open it to the vetted public as “The Kerby Center for World Service.” Until then I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing
