At the heart of our most premium builds, the Modern Mountain Craft home, is the timber frame, a long standing tradition in Vermont. These frames define the architecture and aesthetic in a timeless way.

Open spaces, lots of light, and connection to the landscape. It's a perfect framework (pun intended 😝) for a mountain side walk-out home.

We strive to create spaces that draw you in. Cozy places with natural light, and warm materials. Thoughtful proportions. Nothing cookie cutter. A sense of calm. A sense that someone cared. That is what we aim for at Hudson Design and Build.

We have a long history of bringing rustic Vermont character into washrooms of every size. From compact powder rooms to full primary suites, we lean into reclaimed wood, natural stone, hand-forged metal, and cabinetry built to feel substantial and grounded. The goal is never trend driven. It is about warmth, texture, and materials that feel like they belong in a mountain home. We love this stuff!

Modern mountain architecture only works if the details are disciplined. One of our go-to features in recent years has been this railing system, the "Feeney DesignRail Modern with integrated LED". Clean profile. No visual clutter. And it isn't just about aesthetics; a system like this makes the deck usable without adding fixtures everywhere.

In Killington, design has to hold up to tough winters and hot summers. Snow load. Freeze cycles. Wet boots and heavy use, and for some, rental turnovers.

We think about that from the first sketch. Materials that age well. Lighting that is subtle but functional. Systems that are durable and serviceable.

PSA! It's been a winter wonderland lately, but Vermont's notorious "mud season" is right around the corner. That means posted roads, limited truck payloads, and major implications for anyone planning to build.

Most towns begin posting restrictions on dirt roads and secondary roads in late February through early March, and sometimes lasting into mid May. There is no single statewide date. Each town sets its own limits based on frost conditions. They spend so much money and time keeping up the roads that they can't afford to have big heavy trucks squishing and digging up the soft roads.

For our clients, this affects:

• Delivery sequencing
• Foundation timing
• Timber frame logistics
• And even the ability to access the property...yup, that much mud!

Building in the Killington region requires local fluency. We track posting timelines, and structure preconstruction schedules around them. In some cases we accelerate work. In others we intentionally delay to protect the site, the road, and the long term relationship with the town and road crew.

Advisory level care means anticipating constraints before they become problems. Vermont is not a generic market. It rewards anticipation and experience.

Enjoy the rest of your winter, and hang in there; longer, sunnier days are ahead!

This home sits about 20 minutes from Killington, deliberately outside the crowds, quietly tucked into the mountains of Stockbridge with a wide open walkout and a long view of the mountains.

The owners wanted to lean fully into rustic. Natural materials. Warm texture. Cozy.

We built this home a couple of years ago and recently circled back for a photo shoot after they had time to settle in and make it their own. They did not hold back! Absolutely stunning. How about those chairlifts?!

A finished home should reflect the people who live in it. This one does exactly that. ❤️

Some call it a basement, we call it a lower level, or a ground floor. It's part of the home's heartbeat. Why would we devalue it to "the basement"? Our walkout spaces are deliberately designed for connection and comfort: Fireplace evenings, après-ski laughs, popcorn and movies, a tasteful wet bar, pool tables and arcade games, guest suites, bunk rooms for the kids, or a door that opens straight out to the hot tub.

Every inch is finished with the same craftsmanship, natural light, and livability as the rest of the home. It’s the lower level, the ground floor, where life happens. 🥰

Vermont fall at its finest, paired with craftsmanship that blends the man-made with the natural.

This timber frame home stands strong against the mountains of Killington, framed by peak foliage and now grounded by the hardscaping details we’re adding. Large native stones, carefully placed, connect the structure back into the hillside, bridging architecture with the landscape.

For Patrick Hudson, this work is personal. Long before he was building timber frames, he was learning stonework at his father’s side around ski country. He manually plucked field stone on their property and loaded the old Ford Ranger until it sagged. At just eight years old, he was building his first stone walls!

That early bond never left. Stone is woven into his creative thread, and today it shows in the way Hudson Design and Build honors each site. Every rock has a place, every detail adds weight and character, and every project tells a story of craft rooted in Vermont.

Built in Vermont. Inspired by Vermont.
