Along the way they were helping others, in a very informal manner, to fulfill their
dreams of building their own home. Eventually, they both realized this was more than just a hobby; it was a passion that they both shared. In 2005 Travis finished his business degree and decided it was time to set up a fully licensed home building company so they could pursue their passion full-on. Ask them and they will tell you, you learn a lot building a home from scratch. And not just about construction. During those early years, Travis and Amy talked to hundreds of people about the building process. What they loved. What they disliked. How the process made them feel. And after a while, two things became crystal clear to them. First, every home had to start with a great design. And second, what people really wanted was the freedom and flexibility to build an affordable home, where and how they wanted it. They learned that buying someone else’s house always involves a compromise. And that other builders are frequently full of reasons why this or that can’t be done. People told them they wanted a builder who would listen and help them create their dream home. Travis and Amy discovered the true vision for Patterson Homes was in designing and building fully customized homes the way their customers wanted them. Not close to what they wanted. Exactly what they wanted at a price and quality level no other builder was delivering. They also learned that this is much easier said than done, which is why so few builders have made an attempt to do it.
