Today is gorgeous and so I took my happy butt and art supplies out to the front porch. My inspiration is my friend’s cat, KitKat. She finally has her garden kitty companion and I just had to paint him in amongst the nana coreopsis.

Eastern Prickly Pear is tough, colorful, drought tolerant, AND native to the eastern U.S. Its bright yellow blooms and unique paddle-shaped texture make it a conversation starter in any sunny landscape.

The past couple years have been really hard as an artist. I was/ still am in this “writer’s block”, but tonight, I brought out the paints opened a canvas that had dust in than I’d like to admit. When I painted it’s always so tight and controlled. I want to push myself to be loose to relax. Just place paint on the canvas and have no regrets. No pressure to make a perfect piece. Life is busy, hectic and unknown, but tonight there is comfort in being creative.

It’s done! I started this watercolor back in the spring. Spring happened, the heat, life and a loss of inspiration, but now I’m happy with the outcome. It’s okay to put projects to the side.
