My daughter is getting married soon! From an organization standpoint, I’m especially proud today since she handed me a 7 page detailed schedule and other important information, including a QR code with up-to-date information like if the weather tries to throw us any curves!

One of my clients cried last week. She’s been through a LOT, and I’ve been helping her get back to living normally. A few years ago, during the height of her depression, her bed broke. At that point, she and her husband moved to the other bedroom, abandoning the trashed main bedroom.
She had always known it would be possible to move back in, but hadn’t been able to actually see it. Until last week. We had gotten rid of the trash around the bed and finally took out the broken bed and dealt with the mess that had been hiding underneath.
It was a huge milestone for her, and the emotions came flooding out!
I’m so blessed to be able to be part of transformations like this! 🥰

I love a “to do” list! It can be very rewarding to ✅ off stuff that I might otherwise drag my feet on. And at the end of the day, it feels good to see all the ✅ ✅ ✅! What is something regularly on your “to do” list? Mine often has a special phone call, laundry, and other weekly type tasks.

My family has also recently started using weekly sticker charts! These can be really helpful for motivation to do the daily, sometimes mundane, tasks. It’s nice when motivation is low, like why should I go for a walk, read, drink lots of water, etc today? Well, for a ⭐️ of course! My family has made it into a bit of a competition to get the most ⭐️s each week, but just knowing that we did something that’s one step closer to a goal is nice motivation for the otherwise redundant.

What about you? Do you think a sticker chart is a fun idea?

In case you're wondering how I spend my time with clients, it's usually something like this! I'm not a professional therapist or cleaner, but I definitely spend some time doing both with most people because that's what they need!
By spending some time doing these, we're able to set up systems that are more easily maintained. If I just came in and organized without cleaning or talking about how it got like this, then chances are, it's quickly going to return to being unorganized. I've learned that taking some time for "therapy" builds trust and a strong desire for change. Cleaning helps clients see the potential in their space and strive to maintain a higher level of organization.

Clutter affects everyone, but research shows it impacts women on a deeper biological level. Studies from UCLA’s Center on Everyday Lives of Families found that when women walk into a messy home, their bodies produce a measurable rise in cortisol, the primary stress hormone. This happens because women tend to interpret clutter as unfinished responsibilities. Their brains read visual mess as a signal that there is work left to do, which activates the stress response even if they are not actively thinking about it.
Men in the same studies showed little to no increase in cortisol when viewing the same level of clutter. Psychologists believe this difference comes from social conditioning and cognitive load. Women are often expected to manage the emotional and physical environment of a household, and their brains track these responsibilities automatically. When the environment feels overloaded, their internal system becomes overloaded as well.
Clutter also divides attention and makes it harder for the brain to process information efficiently. Women report greater irritability, lower mood, and reduced focus in messy spaces compared to men. Over time, chronic exposure to clutter can drain energy and increase mental fatigue.
This does not mean women are “overreacting.” Their brains are responding in a real and measurable way. Restoring order, even in small steps, helps regulate cortisol and creates a sense of control and calm. A tidy environment becomes more than clean space. It becomes psychological relief.
