What quilt patterns were all the rage in years gone by? Which styles stood the test of time?

On August 2, discover the answers during "The Hit Parade of Quilts," an engaging presentation by quilt historian and author Bunnie Jordan. Combined with a three-course afternoon tea and a special exhibit of Virginia quilts, this promises to be a memorable event benefiting the Virginia Quilt Museum.

The installation of "Material Nation: 250 Years of American Quiltmaking" is underway! This exhibition will span the entirety of the museum with each of our galleries representing a different theme connected to the history of quiltmaking in the United States. We are scheduled to open a new gallery to the public weekly throughout the month of June as we build toward the full opening of the exhibition on July 2.

In this Quilt of the Month, we see the American flag as an enduring symbol of American patriotism. Made by Ella Evans, this quilt holds identical Unions in opposite corners each with forty-five stars — an accurate rendition of American states in 1900. Evans made this quilt for a man named Otis Golden. Evans cared for Otis and his brothers after their mother passed away.
