Here’s a find some people love to hate. . These paintings are famous for being considered one of the tackiest thing anyone can collect. However, we over at Nonnie’s think they’re pretty groovy. Black velvet paintings got their start in cities on the U.S. and Mexico border being sold to American tourists by Mexican artists (circa 1950s-1970s). Some of you may remember them picking up in popularity in the 1970s. Give them a Google there’s a lot of really fantastic articles that will give you an in-depth history on black velvet paintings and their origins. These two look to be done by the same artist(s) and depict a Matador fighting a bull. Once they’re all cleaned up (they’re a bit dusty) They’ll be ready for sale.

Our favorite item(s) of the week are these Indian String . You might know them as . These were severely tangled together when we found them. After painstakingly untangling them they’re read to go home with someone who will adore them as much as we do. ❤️

This is by far one of my favorite pieces. This is a jewelry, trinket or hanky box. I’m not sure what was stored in it originally but basically you can put any of those things in there. lol What is celluloid, you might ask? Celluloid, the first synthetic plastic material, developed in the 1860s and 1870s. Celluloid was made into toiletry articles (you’ll often see vanity sets made of it), novelties, photographic film, and many other mass-produced goods. Its popularity began to wane only toward the middle of the 20th century, following the introduction of plastics based on entirely synthetic polymers. This piece is featured at our booth at the Lafayette School House Antique Malll and it up for grabs there.

Our featured find for this week is a pair of silver plated and glass chicken salt and pepper shakers. Sadly, our research lead us nowhere when it comes to finding out the history on these two love birds. However, still an interesting pair for any shaker collector out there. We can honestly say We’ve never seen anything like them in person or online.

BIG NEWS!
Today we opened up a case at Lafayette Schoolhouse Antique Mall in Layfayette Oregon! We're located on the 3rd floor in case #58. This is the first time we've been featured in an antique mall. We will still be posting items on Instagram and on the page here on Facebook before adding them to the case at the mall. This will allow our online customers to "call dibs" on any items before they're placed on the showroom floor. New items will be posted online on Mondays and if no one calls said dibs, the item will be added to our case on Saturday. Don't forget to follow the page here or follow us on Instagram!
