Small and mighty or large and in charge, a shower niche doesn’t have to be an afterthought.

Sometimes we want it to nearly disappear into the wall, using the same material so it feels seamless.

Other times, it becomes part of the design, turning something purely functional into a defining detail.

The right approach depends on the shower, the materials, what needs to be stored, and how we want the overall space to feel and function.

And while some niches may look simple when it’s finished, there’s quite a bit happening behind the scenes. Placement, scale, tile layout, waterproofing, stone thicknesses, grout lines, and how each material transitions all need to be considered together.

You don’t need to have your remodel figured out before calling a designer. But a little clarity goes a long way.

Before reaching out, spend some time thinking about what isn’t working in your home, what you want to preserve, what you’d like to change, and what you’re comfortable investing in the project.

You don’t need exact answers. You don’t need to select materials, solve the floor plan, or determine the scope on your own. That’s where we come in.

What’s helpful is understanding your priorities. How do you want to live differently in the home? What would make the biggest impact on your day-to-day experience? What matters enough to invest in?

Bring us those thoughts, questions, and even the things you’re unsure about.

From there, we can help turn them into a thoughtful design direction, establish the right scope, and guide the decisions that follow.

It’s been a while since I’ve properly introduced myself, so hi, I’m JR.

I’m the founder and principal designer behind Joseph Interiors, and I’m also the person who will probably notice the ¼-inch detail no one else is looking at.

I love natural materials and beautifully finished spaces, but what really keeps me interested in this work is figuring out how everything comes together. I want to know how it’s built, where two materials meet, why something is proportioned a certain way, and whether the smallest details have actually been thought through.

I’m naturally very detail-oriented, but I’m equally interested in the people I’m designing for. I ask a lot of questions. I want to know how you make coffee in the morning, where everyone ends up at the end of the day, what you love about your current home, and what has been driving you crazy for years.

I don’t believe every client should end up with the same version of my aesthetic. My job is to understand your taste, your home, and the way you live, then bring all of it together in a way that feels considered and completely personal to you.

I love the creative side of design, but I also genuinely enjoy the technical side: plans, cabinetry drawings, construction details, site meetings, material transitions, and solving the little things that make the finished home feel right.

And while I take the work seriously, I want the experience to feel personal. You’re trusting me with your home, your investment, and a lot of decisions. That relationship matters to me.

So, whether you’re new here or you’ve been following for years, hi. I’m JR. It’s nice to properly meet you.

Months of work, condensed into six slides.

From the first moodboards and early concepts to design development, construction, installation and the final layer of styling, there’s a lot that happens between “here’s what we’re thinking” and “welcome home.”

Plans are drawn and redrawn. Materials are sourced. Details are worked through. Site conditions change. Decisions are made, revisited and refined. Then eventually, all of those individual pieces start to look like the home we imagined at the beginning.

The finished photographs might be the part you see most often, but the process of getting there is where so much of the work happens.

One of our favorite details in this bathroom is the custom floating vanity.

We wanted the cabinetry to bring warmth to the room while keeping the overall feeling open and balanced. Floating the vanity helped create more visual space and gave the room a lighter, more refined feel.

Because it was custom made for this bathroom, we were able to carefully consider the proportions, storage, hardware, open towel shelf, and how the vanity would align with the sinks and mirrors above.

It’s those details, planned together from the beginning, that can completely change how a room feels and functions.

You might not need an interior designer.

If you have the time to source hundreds of pieces, understand construction details, review contracts and specifications, coordinate vendors, manage procurement, watch the budget, answer contractor questions and make sure every decision supports the larger vision, you may be perfectly fine on your own.

But if what you really want is a custom, highly considered home without having to become an expert in everything required to create one, that’s a different conversation.

Full-service interior design goes far beyond aesthetics.

Our role is to establish the vision, build the right team, align the design with the budget, develop the details, source the right materials and products, coordinate with contractors and trades, manage procurement and keep an eye on the hundreds of decisions that happen between concept and completion. While your role is to rust the process, tell us what feels right and what doesn’t, make the decisions that matter to you, and enjoy watching it come together.

And just as importantly, we help our clients know which decisions actually need their attention and which ones they can trust us to handle.

The goal isn’t simply a beautiful home.

It’s a thoughtful process that gets you there, and a finished home that feels distinctly yours.

Framing is where the drawings start to become a home, and where some of the most important design decisions are made.

We’re at our La Costa project in San Clemente, walking the site and reviewing how the architecture, cabinetry, ceiling transitions, and sightlines are beginning to take shape.

One detail we reconsidered was the ceiling transition in the kitchen. On paper, the soffit worked, but once we could physically walk the space, we saw an opportunity to refine it.

By aligning the transition with the end of the cabinetry, the kitchen now feels more intentionally framed and connected to the architecture around it.

This is why we stay closely involved throughout construction. Drawings give us the roadmap, but being on site allows us to study how the home is actually taking shape and refine the details before they become permanent.

After the final reveal, one of the most meaningful parts of any project is hearing directly from our clients that the finished home exceeded their expectations, and that they felt supported and taken care of throughout the entire process.

Our Las Lunas project was shaped by so many thoughtful decisions, but just as important was the relationship behind them. Clear communication, trust, and being available throughout the process are a meaningful part of how we approach every project.

Hearing that a client feels at home in the space we created together, every single day, is the kind of feedback that stays with us.

We are incredibly grateful for the trust behind this home and for the opportunity to bring it to life.
