We lost our little Bug yesterday. Just shy of his 16th birthday, he went quietly over the Rainbow. He leaves behind 2 doggie brothers and 3 kitty brothers and sisters and 3 sobbing adults. He was a constant little warrior...barreling his way through the crowd to the snacks or to grab a piece of yarn. His favorite soul was his big brother Bear -- they had the same parents but were a litter apart. Bear picked him out and that was that. The biggest gift was having Bug jump up in bed with you and do 'biscuits' on your blanket as he purred like a little sportscar. Nothing made him happier than being outside in the grass and dirt. I would put him in his cat stroller and walk him around the neighborhood so he could smell all the smells, let the wind push his fur around (yes, I got some interesting looks on that one). He was the one to catch mice and leave them as a present in the Dining Room....or to watch goldfish on the laptop for hours.
His decline happened quickly -- we noticed he starting losing weight and doing circles and looking very confused. We thought if we could just fatten him up, a dementia kitty was just fine with us. We took turns handfeeding him and keeping a daily tab on how much we were able to get in him. For a short time, we got the 'lap kitty' -- he would spend hours in our arms, snuggled up against us. Even seemed to enjoy a warm shower. Happy, loved, content and close to us.
We never realized the "last night" was on us...he fell asleep like a little baby on top of me. We think he started to leave us sometime in the middle of the night. I believe his spirit nudged me awake so I could help him finish his journey over.
Will see you down the road, little Buggie. Our hearts our broken today but full of love.
