When all the Valentine candy is gone, what about a serving of beautiful sassy queens? We had a treat today at Devil Dawgs on Clark Street in Andersonville (our 6th store!!)… music, laughs, friends and DRAGberry shakes! Thank you to our wonderful queens — Ginger and Pansy!

We lost our little Bug yesterday. Just shy of his 16th birthday, he went quietly over the Rainbow. He leaves behind 2 doggie brothers and 3 kitty brothers and sisters and 3 sobbing adults. He was a constant little warrior...barreling his way through the crowd to the snacks or to grab a piece of yarn. His favorite soul was his big brother Bear -- they had the same parents but were a litter apart. Bear picked him out and that was that. The biggest gift was having Bug jump up in bed with you and do 'biscuits' on your blanket as he purred like a little sportscar. Nothing made him happier than being outside in the grass and dirt. I would put him in his cat stroller and walk him around the neighborhood so he could smell all the smells, let the wind push his fur around (yes, I got some interesting looks on that one). He was the one to catch mice and leave them as a present in the Dining Room....or to watch goldfish on the laptop for hours.

His decline happened quickly -- we noticed he starting losing weight and doing circles and looking very confused. We thought if we could just fatten him up, a dementia kitty was just fine with us. We took turns handfeeding him and keeping a daily tab on how much we were able to get in him. For a short time, we got the 'lap kitty' -- he would spend hours in our arms, snuggled up against us. Even seemed to enjoy a warm shower. Happy, loved, content and close to us.
We never realized the "last night" was on us...he fell asleep like a little baby on top of me. We think he started to leave us sometime in the middle of the night. I believe his spirit nudged me awake so I could help him finish his journey over.

Will see you down the road, little Buggie. Our hearts our broken today but full of love.

I walked away from interior design for a year to regain some footing ….and to reconsider if there was a bigger purpose to all this. The universe quite literally answered me (although I didn’t recognize it at first). Helping my in-laws navigate care and a new life combined with an unexpected walk thru of my Mamaw and Papaw’s old house last year woke me up. I call it “Legacy Design” … it’s making sure your loved ones are not put in a gray box at some senior care facility with a chaotic hodge podge of items. It’s about making sure their last home is thoughtfully designed for comfort, safety and beauty. Honoring what is likely their final chapter. This may be a smaller scale than what I’m used to it and might not make the cover of a magazine, but I think it’s important and profound. DM if I can help your family.

In the middle of the installation, I had to sit down and take a call… I took a seat here — and as I’m talking I’m really noticing what a beautiful secret spot this is. Surrounded by this gorgeous grasscloth wallpaper, the sumptuous washable velvet on this old chair, all the detail and patina of the antique secretary… it all just really came together. Peaceful and calming (and the acoustics were fantastic too!). I hope my client has many wonderful mornings in this same spot.

Fabulous foyer in my project …. don’t mind the remnants sitting on the floor…it takes time to get to that perfect shot. The 200 year old armoire fits like it was made for the spot (read: truly not an inch to spare!). Client wanted a lake house that looked like it had been there for 100 years … we blended LOTS of antique pieces to achieve that— gave them new life w either new fabrics, tassels or simply placed them next to new poppy pieces (in this pic, that would be the chandelier). Distressed French oak floors are a joy to walk on — they turned out more beautifully than I ever thought possible. More work-in-progress pics to come from our MI install!

It took nearly two years for this Michigan lake house to come together. My team made our final trip up here this week to install this lovely piece of heaven overlooking the water. We couldn’t take any “real” final photos 😕 given the trades are returning tomorrow and there is a painter’s tape punch list everywhere … not ideal but sometimes you just have to go for it, right?! I’ll share snippets here and there but know you’ll be seeing final photos and “befores” a bit later. We had a ball up here this week scouting art and vintage pieces, trying to get in those little touches that make a space so perfectly balanced and complete. We are so proud of our work and I hope our client (who has only seen small clips via Facetime) will fall in love forever. Exhausted. And signing off. 🤪🤩😴

It’s a shame I can’t FREEZE time and enjoy these beautiful trees in our courtyard just a wee bit longer. Those gorgeous pink flowers are already falling off. 😢 This is our first Spring here so we will just sit back and see what else is next!
