I love this vignette as it captures the carefully crafted balance of hard and soft lines, and a quiet neutral palette. Often, the combination of black and white, given its high contrast, is seen as bold, but when blended with warm wood tones, it can serve as a perfectly grounded backdrop for the surrounding natural beauty.

Take a peak into the great room of this lakefront home. This project, four years in the making, was a real labor of love and evidence of the magic Mint Architecture + Design, Julie Cohoon Principal Architect and Sloan Polish Design can create together.

The architecture of the space features a high sloping ceiling punctuated by a monitor roof that lets in light from all directions and creates views of the tree tops and sky. White oak hugs the large arched bar and fireplace wall including the cozy window seat. The interior space is layered with textures (fluted marble, velvets, leather, concrete, wood) and patterns that speak to its Scandinavian modern design sensibility.
