Builder beige → a home that’s unmistakably theirs. 🧡
The second time around with these clients, and it’s always a joy. Their new build came with all the standard specs: neutral walls, white trim, nothing wrong but nothing personal. They love collected, colorful, one-of-a-kind homes, so we started where they come in every day. The inspiration was already on the wall: their Man Ray poster, red lips floating over a horizon at dusk. We pulled the palette straight from it. A persimmon ceiling. A sunset that melts into deep charcoal. A waterfall wood console, a brass lamp, and a hand-knotted fish runner that makes you smile every time you walk in.
The secret? A mix of good and best. We sourced the basics smartly and put the investment where it counts: the wallpaper, the rug, and a one-of-a-kind bronze elephant. Those are the pieces that make it theirs.

September moves quickly here in the Pacific Northwest. The light shifts, the evenings come a little earlier, and we start noticing what our homes are doing, and what they’re not.
This year, Salone del Mobile, Maison & Objet, and Maison & Objet Pulse all pointed the same direction: away from grey-on-grey and toward warmth. Chocolate and caramel. Terracotta and ochre. Claret for drama. Deep greens alongside it all.
It’s a beautiful, livable palette. But before you pull a single paint chip, there’s a better question, and it’s the first one I ask in every client discovery:
What do you love? What have you always been drawn to?
Grey has been part of my story since my childhood home’s “Silver Fox” carpet. Some of my clients are making the opposite journey back to warmth. The palette cycles. What endures is the instinct beneath it.

It’s the first conversation we have with nearly every client — because naming it early shapes everything that follows.
Here’s the part people don’t expect: fast isn’t the same as cheap in design. It’s often the most expensive path of all — narrower sourcing, more hours, choices made under pressure instead of with intention.

Today we’re thinking of the first responders who ran toward danger, the families who carry this day every year, and a country that came together in its darkest hour. Alan Jackson said it better than most of us can. “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” is on repeat here today. Never forget. 🇺🇸
