What ever happened with the Outback Naked Calendar Project?
Outback Naked Calendar Committee currently holds in trust for the Town of Lakeview approximately $44,000 in profits from calendar sales. Printing costs were $17,000 and mailing $6,000. Some people made an additional donation in addition to their order, or just made a donation and didn’t want a calendar; also mailing turned out to be cheaper than expected when we started manually addressing envelopes, so we can’t just multiply the number sold by $25 (the original price of calendar). We sold approximately 2250 calendars.
The $6,000 worth of mailing was a burden on our wonderful post office employees, not to mention on Jess, Dan and Victoria Calvin who each spent hours addressing envelopes and standing in line at the post office to get it done.
Lakeview Community Partnership welcomed us under their non-profit 501(c)3 umbrella, so our revenue was not taxed. Lynx Systems in Salem was extremely responsive, even helping with design at last minute when graphics needed tweaking. Their fine work is evidenced in the pages of the calendar. Zeffy is a fundraising platform specifically supporting non-profits, and they were very helpful in setting up an online store for the calendars.
What about our brave models? And the photographers?
Without all of you, we would never have had this success.
The goal of Outback Naked 2026 was to support the Town of Lakeview by raising money for snowplowing, to avoid any need (at least for a few years) for extra fees attached to household water bills to pay for this service.
100% of our profits are dedicated to snowplowing. The Outback Naked Calendar Committee proposes to repay the Town for expenses incurred for snowplowing, upon receipt of itemized bills. Because it was basically a snow-free winter, we have not received any bills so far.
An article about the calendar was published in The Oregonian, so the project was picked up nationally, heralding a sales boom. Thanks to The Oregonian, the Wall Street Journal included our project on their front page, which led to an explosion of other venues reporting about us: NBC News, Fox News, CBS News, CNN Atlanta, The Drew Barrymore Shore, Oregon On the Record (NPR in Eugene), KGW News Portland, the podcast “Why?,” News Nation Live, People Magazine online, probably more. What a wild ride!
Outback Naked Calendar Committee is considering a second calendar, “Outback Naked 2027 — Classic Cars,” the profits of which will go to support a specific funding lack in Lake County (yet to be determined).
