Some quick tips from David Lyall Design!
1ď¸âŁIt sounds simple, but it can help alleviate much of the stress of choosing a design direction, and help you find what you actually like. With the whole world at our fingertips in the digital age, you can go as in depth or surface as youâd like with the fundamentals of design.
2ď¸âŁDonât shy away from color - great designers are not afraid of it, and you shouldnât be either. Following the basic rules of color theory can give you a huge advantage in your spaces.
3ď¸âŁMixing styles, colors, patterns, and textures have been an integral part of design for years. Mixing gives your interior a professional look and allows you to collect pieces that are meaningful to you without being beholden to having everything match in your space.
4ď¸âŁThe most fundamental part of good design is prioritizing function - a space can be beautiful, but if doesnât work for you or your lifestyle, you are never going to enjoy it. This takes great observation and insight from designers, and much self reflection and honesty with yourself. There are limitless questions to ask yourself to achieve a great design, but some initial ones to get you started is to ask yourself how you move in the space, how others move in the space, and what itâs used for.
