One question I ask every client I work with: are you aiming for a Holiday Inn Express experience, or a Ritz-Carlton one? Neither answer is wrong. But you have to know which one you're building. Most boutique properties are somewhere in between — and that in-between is the most expensive place to be. You're spending money without building a clear identity. The best properties we visit have answered that question clearly. And it shows in every room.
