The Rising Project

Directions

The Rising Project The Rising Project started with my flower garden and a simple idea: growing joy to give away. It's a pay-it-forward thing. Flowers made you smile? Pass it on. 🌸

Every bouquet is free: take one, or gift one to someone who needs a smile.

Should I just feed my money directly to him at this point??? Or does he not realize how expensive horse life is???

We barely had the trailer unloaded before Beau decided to keep things interesting. 🙃 Cellulitis = a bacterial infection in the tissue under the skin. It usually starts with something small (a scrape, a nick, a bug bite) and can turn into a hot, swollen, painful leg fast. It doesn't care if your horse is pampered, clean, or just got home. Any break in the skin can be the way in. What to watch for: 🔥 Sudden swelling, often in one leg 🔥 Heat and pain when you touch it 🔥 Lameness or not wanting to move 🔥 Fever or being "off" If you see it, call your vet early. Cellulitis gets harder to get ahead of the longer it goes. Has your horse ever had it? Tell me what you saw first 👇

How horses sleep, and why it matters at a horse show 👇 Horses get roughly 2 to 7 hours of sleep a day, and most of it happens standing up thanks to a locking mechanism in their legs. But they can only get REM sleep, the deep sleep where they dream, lying down, and they need about 30 minutes of it a day. Horses are prey animals, so they won't lie down unless their stall is comfortable and they feel safe. That's why deep bedding and a calm stall matter so much at a show like Congress. Have you ever caught your horse flat out asleep?

Horse show anxiety, honestly: after the Quarter Horse Congress I think mine comes from not trusting my horse. He’s a really good horse. Riders can measure a horse’s heart rate following their own, so when I tense up in a horsemanship pattern, he feels it. My goal for next year is to stop freaking out, ride the horse underneath me, and let him do his job. What’s the one thing you tell yourself before you go in the pen?

Still open! The pay what you can flower stand just works a little differently now — it’s build your own. Pick whatever you want, grab a vase or tie it with the string, arrange it how you like, cut the stems even, done. A dollar a stem is the going rate but it’s always pay what you can. Fresh flowers out every day, just south of Saginaw on Kipling. No, the stand didn’t close — it got better. Everything’s loose now so you can build your own bouquet exactly how you want it. Pay what you can, Venmo or cash. Come build your own bouquet. Pick, arrange, cut the stems even, take it home. Pay whatever feels right — and if money’s tight, take them anyway and pass a kindness on to someone else.

The stand is still out there — it just looks a little different now.Instead of ready-made bunches, everything’s loose so...

The stand is still out there — it just looks a little different now.

Instead of ready-made bunches, everything’s loose so you can build your own. Pick whatever catches your eye, put it in one of the vases or tie it up with the string that’s out there, arrange it how you like, then cut all the stems even. Fresh flowers come out every day.

A dollar a stem is the usual going rate, but it’s still pay what you can. Pay whatever feels right — Venmo -rising, or leave cash in the mailbox. And if money is tight, please just take the flowers and pay it forward with a kindness to someone else.

Everything collected goes back into the farm — covering what I’ve invested to get it started, and helping it grow next year.

Just south of Saginaw on Kipling.

Cellulitis in horses — Beau came home from the Quarter Horse Congress with a few scratches and swollen legs, even with standing wraps on. Cellulitis is a bacterial infection under the skin, and it’s very painful. The vet came out right away, and that’s why it’s manageable: caught early, it usually responds to treatment, but left alone it can turn serious fast. His plan: cold hose daily, medicated wash, standing wraps, vet-prescribed antibiotics with stomach protection, and stall rest. Hot, hard, painful swelling is not stocking up. Call your vet. Has your horse ever had cellulitis? What got the swelling down?

Hat shaping at the Quarter Horse Congress, part 2. Danny from Howell Western Wear shaped my 4X show hat and explained why hat shapes look completely different from state to state, how to line the crease up with your eyes, and where my older hat is showing wear and tear. Doing my horse girl thing is everything! I live for the horse show life and the Quarter Horse Congress is the biggest stage for it!! I like for the pattern classes at horse shows and the equitation pattern had me feeling pretty locked in this year ❤️ # # # # #

Horse show nerves before my second horsemanship pattern at the Quarter Horse Congress. This time it was Non Pro Horsemanship, and my horse and I both stayed way calmer than in our first Level 1 Amateur pattern. No callback in a deep class of 98 entries, but this is a pattern I can be proud of. Maria Rising-Horses and Plants
