Just over 2 years, and a float down a river later, this beauty is back at The Squirrel & Nut.

While looking back to find a photo of Rocky Davis' 'Tomatoes' from 2024, it was hard to believe we were only in this location for 4 months prior to Helene coming through and wreaking havoc on our community. A couple days after the storm, Rob Henson pulled me into the General Store saying, "YOU HAVE TO SEE WHAT I FOUND!" I had no clue what he was going to show me. Walking in and seeing the 4' x 5' painting leaning against the wall seemingly unscathed was something I never imagined. With no tears, but inches of dirt caked onto the back, Rocky spent the last two years cleaning and remounting the canvas, and adding a new frame to compliment this beloved painting. We are honored to host this piece of history at the shop until it finds its forever home.

A couple new Bob originals just made their way into the shop!

The air is turning crisp and fall is here, come spend some time in our sweet little town. The shop currently has 45 local artists based in WNC, ETN, and SWVA along with various other small batch makers from across the US. We are fully stocked for the season with one of a kind finds!

Y'all, Lansing is truly the place to be this Saturday for our 2nd Lansing Day! Everyone is pulling out all the stops for an incredible day that you won't want to miss.

Here at The Squirrel & Nut, we figured what better way to celebrate than to partner with two of our favorite people.

From 10:30 - 12:30, Alison Little of Visual Uprising Photo and Field Lines Studio will be at the shop doing free digital portraits.

From 2:00 - 4:00, we'll have Megan North Shuford popping up with The Love Jar Project . This will be just the beginning of a series of events hosted here at the shop and around Ashe County. Stop by and help us prepare special tokens of joy and love and learn about the project.

What is The Love Jar Project you might ask? From Megan herself, "The LJP is a random acts of kindness project that MNS created in 2013. Wide-mouth mason jars are filled with notes of appreciation and love, inspirational prose and a few wee special gift items, talismans or trinkets. The jars are then distributed in various cities and left in random places to be found and taken home by whomever happens by and finds the jar. "

We’ve been fans of Anne Vaughan Designs for over a decade after seeing her work at our first ever trade show experience. I’m so excited to share her beautiful line of jewelry with y’all!

Located just over the border in Floyd, VA, Anne’s team uses Czech glass beads, gemstones, and various other pieces to create unique and one of a kind jewelry you’ll reach for over and over.

Can you believe we are already in mid September?

We had a blast bringing in the Autumn Collection to the shop and you’ve all clearly loved every bit of it. Running a retail biz is a challenge when it comes to what to stock, what to reorder, when to stop reordering, and what new goods to bring in. This is where we need your help.
