Good read, thanks Kim Shoue-Decker for tagging me!! We love our girls and are happy to give them a great life as our pets first!

Sometimes, there's no telling what you'll find when you crack open an egg. It's everyone's general hope that nothing unusual will come out of it, but one thing that's often ignored when inspecting the contents of that freshly cracked egg is the color of the yolk. Sure, it's supposed to be yellowish,

We had our first predator attack last night. Came home to found feathers everywhere and 2 injured hens hiding in the thicket. Valery was devastated last night we thought for sure her big boy was gone! Our top two rooster, were missing for almost 24 hours, then just reappeared. Caused some stress within the flock but hopefully everything will be back to normal tomorrow.

Would anyone be interested in fresh (or frozen) chicken meat?

I'm debating doing some meat birds for our family and whomever else would be interested. Cost will depend on interest but probably $4-5 per pound of meat-cut how ever you'd like.

Here's some general information about Acre Eggs.

BIRDS
We have about 50 birds, currently 25+ layers, 20ish young hens plus a few show birds and our roosters.

YARD/COOP
Our chickens free range all day on our acre and the surround acres/woods, we have great neighbors!
At night the get secured in their 10X16 coop so they are safe from predators!

FEED
We feed a fresh NON GMO feed that we get from Liberty feed and bean mill in Shelbyville, IN. It has no preservatives, or added fillers and has a shelf life of 60 days.

HEALTH
We have chosen to be antibiotic and hormone free! We use natural remedies when needed such as garlic, which is antibacterial and antimicrobial, along with raw unfiltered locally sourced honey, which is antibacterial, antimicrobial, and promotes healthy skin growth!

COST $3 a dozen
The feed we buy isn't cheap and eggs like ours cost $5-7 a dozen in the store, but I don't do it to make money, I enjoy all our birds and they keep me moving and busy. Dwayne has always told me as long as egg sales cover feed he accepts the chickens and builds me anything I ask!!

This video does a nice job of explaining what certain words mean on store bought egg cartons.
Our chickens a totally pasture raised! They go in the coop at night for their safety but roam all day. We also feed a high quality feed, that's not cheap, plus the treats!
