ArcherWoodworking

ArcherWoodworking I make stuff that I like and sometimes people like it too. I also talk about wood way too much.

Archer Woodworking was formed in 2016 by Kevin as a backyard hobby during graduate school. While the shop and small business has grown, AWW remains close to its roots: to learn new skills and abilities, to grow and share that progress with those around us, and to put quality into every piece we produce. Archer Woodworking creates wooden gifts and decor for the kitchen and home. Completed, ready-fo

One of my new items for the 2025 season has been one of my best sellers: bread knives! Deftly keeping up with current trends, I'm only 5-1/2 years late to the sourdough baking craze but these have still been wildly popular. So popular that I still cannot get photos of my finished versions since they have sold out at every show!

I always (try to) turn the volume on these shop videos to 50% or so, just so I don't blow someone's eardrum out. That's the level of care I bring to you. And then I hard-cut by saying something like, "The same level of care that I bring to my work in the shop."

Just getting some boards dead square and correctly aligned. I don't sell parallelagrams here. And while this process may be overkill on some designs, it's crucial when cutting intricate boards down to their final size.

AWW Holiday Show Number 1: ✅️
While I haven't been posting much on IG, that doesn't mean I haven't been tearing it up in the shop the past few months *trying* to get ready for Christmas! Add in all of my retail orders and trying to also have a real career and a life and it adds up to a lot of long long nights in the shop. So I did the rationale thing and decided to 1) add another big show, bringing me to five shows in four weeks, and 2) DOUBLE my booth sizes for all shows!

First show is in the books and overall, I'm happy. I like this smaller tune-up show to try some things, figure out my layout, and see how new products do on a trial basis. I actually didn't sell any cutting boards, but it brought in foot traffic and it gave me some good intel. But the smalls sold all day and made up the deficit. New items included bread knives (almost sold out) and whiskey smoking kits (sold about half of the prepared kits). Displays were pretty effective and I have some good notes on what to improve. Doubled up on last year's sales at this show too. But most importantly, it was great to chat with shoppers and other makers and just be getting into the swing of things.

Hope everyone is grinding it out in the shop and getting their orders knocked out! How's your season going??

After the glue-up, a lot of my work ends up on the CNC. There are a few ways to remove glue blobs and reflatten a board, but the CNC is reliable and fantastically accurate. And since I tend to baby my CNC and take tiny bites, I'm the limiting factor for speed here.

If you listen really carefully, you can hear the compressor kick on halfway through. It's a baby hotdog 2g Craftsman with a slow leak that I continue to neglect and then haphazardly repair. And it scares the absolute hell out of me every 4 minutes when it kicks on unexpectedly. Doubly so when I don't have my headphones on. Even editing this 8s reel gives me a twinge of PTSD and spikes my heart rate. I should honestly change my phone's alarm to this sound; I'd be up before dawn every day after that.

I guess I should post on here and not just watch Reels? Anyway, I've been working in the shop nightly for months now, and I really don't have much to show for it. But I have tons and tons of stuff 90% finished and ready for market. New items...classic hits....and maybe some other surprises coming. I doubled my booth sizes at all of last year's shows and I've added a road trip holiday show to the lineup! So yeah, buckle up and join me on Year 2 of the Archer Holiday Stress Fest!

Pictured here: 18 cutting boards, with some earmarked for a NEW retail spot! Hey , any guesses where some high-quality kitchen items might end up? Because we're bringing a little Wyoming to Old Town next month!

Hi everyone, I've missed you all. No promises that I will ever post again, but maybe I will? Are hashtags in or out? What are we even doing any more? And has anyone seen K Pop Demon Hunters yet? I hear it's popular with the blue collar woodworking crowd, tons of overlap.

I am an awful salesman.

I say it all the time, even to potential customers. "I like making things, but I hate selling them." And it's the truth. I don't have a killer sales pitch or do slick wheeling and dealing. I make awesome looking products that I like, and then I put it for sale. And if someone likes it enough they give me money for the thing. Rinse and repeat. I'll never talk someone into a corner or pressure to complete a sale. And I'm talking about $15 trinkets or a $300 cutting board. Yet it's funny that I fall for the sales approaches when it comes to an engagement ring, or a truck, or a house. That I need to act now on a 5-6 figure purchase or I'll regret it for life. It's wild.

I let my work speak for itself. I make cool s**t that will last for decades. And if you don't want to buy it I totally understand. So when this board came out of the clamps I knew it'd sell quick, even without me pushing it hard. And it did.

But I'd love to hear people's approaches to sales. Do you push product or let the sales come to you? What line seals the deal or gets that big custom order? Share your advice!

Far and away the most talked about items at my first two holiday shows have been the endgrain boards. People take a single look and can see the time, effort, and experience. It may be time to increase my end grain output soon. I have a few boards in waiting, but I'm noodling the idea of another batch of brick boards, chaos boards, intricate inlays, or just random patterns. What do y'all want to see happen??

AWW 2024 Craft Show Schedule!
I'm pretty sure my last market was in spring 2018, so I thought I'd ease back into things by overcommitting to 4 holiday shows, my retail partnership, my website sales, and my outstanding custom orders. Because it's important to find a balance around the holidays 😂. Anyway, if you're in Laramie and looking for the perfect handmade gift this year please consider attending a few of these wonderful events and supporting local artists. And if you're not local but want to do the same, shoot me a DM to chat about inventory. I'll update my website someday, but I've been really hitting the shop hard for the past 6 weeks to prepare and I'm crossing my fingers that things go well!

Laramie folks- please save this post and share it with some friends! I'd love to see you soon!

Our Story

Archer Woodworking was founded in early 2016 while I was in grad school and needed an outlet to recharge my batteries. When I moved to Hershey, PA I was able to grow the shop and it has opened up a huge opportunity for me to grow as a craftsman and individual. There’s something special about making things with your hands, about seeing a project through to its finish, and creating something that you’re proud of. I’ve found that with Archer Woodworking.
