It's a struggle when all I want to do is paint these damn dolls!
After delivering La Dona to Santisima Gallery last week, I came home and started another.
The time and thought that goes into these dolls is incredibly therapeutic to my mind.
I've recently had to reach out for professional help with some personal struggles and that is very humbling to me. I encourage others to do it and strongly believe that professional help is beneficial to most people, but when it comes to myself, I am of the old school thinking to pull yourself up by your bota straps.
And that is a completely outdated way of thinking. It's never too late to ask for help when the demons steal your joy.
So, back to the damn dolls. I enjoy painting their faces and bodies. I enjoy styling their hair and coming up with ways to alter and design their clothing. I love creating the tiny jewelry they wear. And I love being able to dig through my crafty closet and look through all of the crap I've collected over the years to find the perfect companions to my creations. This is my Raven Queen. Aside from the doll itself, everything is made from either recycled or upcycled things in my studio. Her throne was made from a candle holder that I bought at Dollar Tree a few years ago and then just used cardboard and a hot glue gun to create a base and backing. Her tattered and distressed dress is just a doll dress that I clipped and dipped in used brush/paint water because I did not want to go to the store and buy fabric dye.
Anyways, I have already made this posting far too long and maybe too personal and I apologize for that, Amigas. Please know how much I appreciate all of you who have offered me your words of encouragment and kindness and to those who have spent their hard earned money by purchasing my artwork. I am so very, very grateful to you. Thank you.
