Did you know that today is National Sea Monkey Day?
In 1957, following the popularity of ant farms, Harold von Braunhut invented Sea Monkeys and hatching kits in 1957. He even received a patent for the process of developing them. Over the years, the sea monkey phenomenon continued to grow- and a few of the lucky fellows got to travel to space with astronaut John Glenn in 1988, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.
The monkeys were marketed to fans though comic books. 3.2 million pages of comic book advertising a year was purchased-and it was a huge success! The money flowed in, as the monkeys flowed out.
They breathe through their feet and can grow up to three eyes...but... to be totally honest, they are actually brine shrimp!
Here at the Fantastic Indoor Swap Meet, our is open, but we do not have ANY of these legendary creatures. Did you ever own any as a child?
