Our store also features home & garden supplies, colorful pots & vases, local gifts, Lavender products from Shelti Lavender Farm and dog gifts and supplies.

A line around the block … even the heat could not keep you away from fresh flowers and our birthday! 🎂

We saw so many flower friends - people we have known since the pandemic days to current and past wedding couples, former teammates, flower farmers, local suppliers, and even my best friend of 30 years … it was so wonderful to see you and hear from so many of you.

Four years ago Carl and I jumped into the unknown of a retail store + flower bar not knowing what the future would hold. Truth be told, we had no idea what we were doing. Retail + a flower business with a perishable product is a STEEP learning curve. But we stuck with it and you all have stuck with us!

The photo of me hugging Mrs. P, the MIL of one of our former brides - that’s how I feel about all of you and how our team felt all day - just a great big hug!

Special thanks to: Ladan, Rachel, and Meg for being with us this Labor Day Weekend at the shop for flower mania. Truly the best team. The single greatest thing about the last 4 years?

Besides the community we have cultivated …

Being able to support SO MANY LOCAL flower growers!!!!

With a busy retail story, daily deliveries, weddings and events, it’s impossible for me to grow flowers full time like I used to. (I still do a yearly crop of tulips, some annuals, dahlias when they behave and peonies when they cooperate!)

Your support of our subscriptions, workshops, weddings, events, the flower bar - make it possible for us to buy from over 20 area farms and small businesses.

Every week we source flowers from people like our friend Ariel, former customers turned flower farming besties Liz of Finkle’s Flowers and Ellie of Lilac Farms.

From up in Ray County down to Baldwin City, KS to Sweet Springs, Mo to Oceola, Mo to farms right here in Lee’s Summit, each week we source as much as we can that is locally grown - unique blooms that you can’t get just anywhere or don’t ship well.

Do we bring in non-local - yes, we found we had to in order to survive year round. And we are grateful for wonderful trusted suppliers who help us find wonderful flowers.

But there is nothing quite like a flower that was grown right here, knowing the person who harvested it, and designing with something so fresh and seasonal.

If I can’t be in a flower field everyday, then I’m happiest getting to see all of you and knowing our designs are made with so much love grown right here in the KS/ MO region. Thank you for helping us support all of these wonderful growers.

I’ve been waiting to share this story with you …

The Story of Ariel

It is one of my core beliefs that God sends me the right people at the right time. That has never been more true than with Ariel.

In June 2020, as the world began to awaken from its lockdown slumber, many businesses remained quiet. A message arrived from a lady who claimed to be an avid gardener, eager to explore flower farming. After some exchanges and me getting over my hesitation, Ariel graced the farm on a hot June day. The grand endeavor? Building new 75-foot rows by hand. 😬

I was convinced that after such a demanding day, Ariel would not return. To my amazement, she not only returned but arrived early! Thus, Ariel became Bel Fiore’s first employee. 😍

As 2020 unfolded and isolation lingered, Ariel was the only person I encountered daily besides Carl. We’ve been inseparable since.

After two seasons of cultivating blooms side by side, the anticipated day arrived: Ariel was ready to embark on her own farming journey.

Entrepreneurs possess a keen ability to recognize kindred spirits, and Ariel has always radiated entrepreneurial grit and determination. Truly, I have never met anyone as diligent and swift as she. I had the privilege of witnessing her transformation—from a curious flower enthusiast to a fully-fledged farmer. It was clear that flower farming is what she has been called to; she had the instinct and intuition necessary to be a grower.

Today, Ariel tends to over six urban acres, specializing in commercial cuts for florists and edible blossoms for restaurants and upscale bars throughout the Kansas City area. Renowned for her wild and natural floral aesthetic, she crafts wedding arrangements that transport you into the heart of the field with the blooms.
Together, Ariel and I have traversed the exhilarating heights and daunting lows of entrepreneurship. She is the steady, encouraging voice I seek when life feels overwhelming. Despite our 13-year age difference, we have forged a bond of deep friendship. Her wisdom belies her years, reminding me that resilience is the true essence of strength.

How is it possible that we are turning 4?

I feel like it was just yesterday that Carl and I held hands and jumped off the cliff into the unknown of retail flower shop ownership.

Thanks to you, our wonderful flower friends we have not only survived, we have thrived!

I keep thinking about this photo.

It may seem super random … but it’s a quick shot of flowers Nurturing with Nature - Ariel and I had just harvested for our photoshoot with Misty Rodda | KC Photographer to promote our farm tour + local flower arranging workshop on September 10th.

Something about all of the color and the light seems to encapsulate the big emotions of this summer. It’s been a doozy 😑 in good ways and in hard ways.

Between Mom fracturing her elbow, Leo scratching his cornea badly, 4 straight weeks of weddings, saying farewell to a wonderful team member and welcoming another who already feels like she’s been wit us forever, seeing friends loose their fur children, a whole host of other things, it’s just been well, a lot.

The only thing that truly clears my mind is harvesting flowers in a field, especially at sunset. My brain slows a little while I work on paint by numbers, or when I design, or hike … but truly being in the middle of a long row of flowers is the only thing that seems to truly settle my soul and make my brain stop going 100 mph.

Why is this one SO SPECIAL to me? Because Ariel was the very first employee of Bel Fiore and now she has her own farm and has become my best friend. Because together she and I are like a walking talking encyclopedia on cut flowers. Because we crack each other up and you can’t help but laugh and smile at us as we need out over flowers.

On a hot, cloudy day, flowers truly make the day better.

I’ve been better about bringing flowers home for myself, or cutting things in the garden just for me. I love designing with things I grew - nothing like it - but getting to enjoy some just for me - it’s so therapeutic.

If the summer heat has you in a funk, come by and see us tomorrow at the shop. I’ll be the resident flower ninja tomorrow along with our amazing almost HS sophomore Rachel and the queen of merchandising and the happy face who delivers your flowers, Ms. Rebecca.
