The doors are open.

After months of designing, making, gathering, testing, building—and more than a few late nights—Russell & Field is officially open.

What began as an idea for a collection of objects inspired by the Virginia Piedmont has slowly become something real: candles poured by hand, pieces made for the home, seasonal goods, and old things gathered along the way.

This is only the beginning, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has followed along, encouraged the idea, and watched Russell & Field take shape.

Well, the daily countdown got a little less…daily.

Turns out the closer you get to launching a business, the longer the to-do list gets.

But we’re back and somehow, we’re already in the single digits.

Goodbye, summer. Hello, autumn.

The fields turn gold, the evenings arrive a little earlier, and the first cool mornings call for open windows and another layer.

There’s something especially good about this time of year in Virginia.

16 days until Russell & Field opens and lately, a lot of the work has been happening behind a screen.

Building the website means taking everything I’ve been working on for months and finally giving it a home: photographing products, writing descriptions, organizing collections, and making countless little decisions about how Russell & Field should look and feel online.

It’s one thing to make the products. It’s another to build the place where you’ll finally get to shop them.

Little by little, it’s coming together.

One of my favorite parts of Field Finds is seeing what a little care can uncover.

Today, I’m cleaning and polishing some of the vintage and antique candlesticks I’ve been collecting for Russell & Field. The goal isn’t to make something old look new, it’s to bring back a little of its original beauty while keeping the age, patina, and character that made it worth bringing home in the first place.

Soon these pieces will be ready to find their next homes.

Our original green candle jars are back in stock. While we ordered alternatives, they didn't live up to the original jars. We can't wait to share these with you.

Things are getting serious around here.

Today, a new wax melter arrived at Russell & Field—one of those purchases that makes this whole thing feel a little more real.

Up until now, candle development has meant small batches, lots of testing, and plenty of trial and error. With launch getting closer, it’s time to start thinking less like a test kitchen and more like actual production.

It may just look like a big metal pot, but to me, it means we’re getting ready to make a lot of candles.

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes before you ever see a booth at a market.

Today’s task: market applications.

That means gathering product photos, writing descriptions, filling out forms, checking calendars, and making the case for why Russell & Field would be a good fit.

We’re hoping to bring Russell & Field to several markets around Northern Virginia this fall and holiday season and give you the chance to see, smell, and shop everything in person.

24 days to launch and today’s job is getting the shot.

We need product photos for upcoming market applications, which means styling, rearranging, shooting…and rearranging again .A little styling, a lot of rearranging, and trying to make everything look finished while we’re still very much building behind the scenes.

One more thing checked off the list. Building Russell & Field, one photo (and application) at a time.
