Happy Friday from a basement that is anything but gloomy ☔✨

This once unfinished space is now a bright, colorful extension of this family’s home, thoughtfully designed for gathering, entertaining, and making memories together. From the beginning, the homeowners envisioned a space full of personality, visual impact, and intentional details.

Every inch of the space was maximized with purpose. We relocated plumbing to create a more functional bathroom layout, designed dedicated zones for lounging and game nights, and incorporated floor-to-ceiling built-ins and a custom entertainment center with extensive storage throughout.

Now, this lower level has become the heart of the home, a place where this family can host friends, unwind together, and enjoy everyday moments in a space designed completely around the way they live.

Behind the scenes of a whole home remodel ✨

Today, one of our Project Directors and Designers walked through this project to finalize the living room fireplace design and primary bathroom wet room details. At the same time, our skilled craftsmen were onsite installing a new support beam in the kitchen ceiling, an important structural update helping bring the reimagined layout to life.

After living in their home for 20+ years, this family decided to stay and completely reimagine their home, creating a space fully customized to better fit their lifestyle, day to day needs, and personal style.

One of the benefits of working with KCBR is having a full-service team that goes far beyond design selections. We are truly reworking and recreating spaces to make better sense for the families living in them. These homeowners were at a crossroads of whether to move or stay put, and through a complete reimagining of their home, they are now able to enjoy a space tailored to their needs for many years to come.

This primary suite was completely reimagined into a Zen spa retreat. 🌱 An oversized arched window and dated layout were replaced with thoughtful symmetry and a spa-like flow. Every detail, from the steam shower with smart controls and freestanding tub to the warm wood accents, the heated towel bar, and concealed storage, was thoughtfully designed to create a sense of balance. The result is a serene, organized sanctuary where each element feels intentional. This DesignKC Award-winning project was also recognized as a Gold and All-Star REMY Award winner. Designed to support a new season of life, this primary bathroom remodel reimagined the layout to create a more functional and intentional everyday experience. An underutilized tub was replaced with a spacious new shower featuring dual showerheads and a transom window that brings in natural light while maintaining privacy.

Beyond the bathroom, the redesign improved the adjoining closet by reclaiming square footage from the former shower location and incorporating a dedicated washer and dryer for added convenience. Completed just before the family welcomed their new baby, the renovation was designed to simplify daily routines while creating a timeless retreat. We are especially grateful for the referral that connected this family with us and for the opportunity to help create a home that better supports this meaningful new chapter in their lives.

From rendering to reality. An extension of the kitchen, this custom bar was designed to feel timeless and indulgent. Tailored for summer hosting, the space is a seamless continuation of the home’s elevated aesthetic.

Layered with an antiqued glass mirror, custom cabinetry, brass gallery rails and hardware, integrated Sub-Zero panel ready refrigeration, and dramatic quartzite surfaces, every detail was selected to bring depth, warmth, and luxury to the experience of everyday living.

Before & After ✨ Part of a main level remodel, we color drenched the laundry room, added a dedicated drop zone for backpacks, shoes, and everyday family life, and incorporated a pocket door to close it off when needed, keeping noise tucked away from the rest of the home.

Designed to feel like a seamless extension of the kitchen, we carried in quartzite countertops, layered details, and custom inlay cabinetry with ribbed glass fronts and brass hardware, paired with a polished nickel faucet for a mixed metal moment. A hardworking space created to conceal the everyday while still feeling elevated, timeless, and intentionally connected to the rest of the home.
