Friends~~This is long, but worth the read~~
I feel compelled to post this~~the last 6 months have been challenging to say the least.
One of my favorite clients/friends wanted to remodel a lower level, and a highly recommended contractor was given the opportunity to do this job.
He certainly was a salesman...and we all thought he would be amazing~~~His website was outstanding and his Company claimed to deliver exceptional quality! Also stating that fair pricing and full transparency were priority~with reliable, friendly, and respectful crews~~~
BUT that is NOT what happened.
He has taken thousands of dollars from them, and he has not put their money toward their project!!
I have since learned of several lawsuits pending on him and his company!!
BUYER BEWARE~
1. require a copy of the contractor's valid business license
2. require a copy of valid insurance
3. require a PERMIT...(this is a sign something is off) a permit protects YOU!!
4. require lien releases for all parties working on your project.
I've learned a hard lessen...and wanted to share this information to help protect YOU, the consumer, from the contractors out there right now that are trying to FOOL you and STEAL from you!!
After sharing my story with other designers, I have heard about several of these situations...Please Protect Yourself!!
ALWAYS do a search on "casesearch.kscourts.com" a helpful tool to make sure who you are working with is not already involved a lawsuit!!
I have had my own business over 30 years, and I have never seen this type of behavior...It's happening far too often now!!
Thank YOU to all the contractors I have worked with who have integrity!! The practice of being honest, consistent, and committed to a strong moral principle is getting harder to find.
Do your homework, and be safe!!
