Swiping right clears 750 dahlias in under a second.

The goal is always to get dahlia tubers dug by the end of October. Goal accomplished, but it did take much longer than one second.

My life these days has included quite a bit of digging in the dirt.

🌷Hundreds of gorgeous tulip and daffodil bulbs were planted for spring 2027 blooms

🥔Now hundreds of dahlia tubers are getting dug up, rinsed, divided, and stored.

I love tulips! 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

From a growing perspective they are one of the simplest flowers I grow. I plant tulips in raised beds so gophers won’t eat the bulbs and also in hopes that deer won’t eat the blooms (the raised beds are right behind the house and not in the open field). To plant them they simply get dumped in the raised bed and covered with dirt. Then I just wait for spring!

Another thing I love about tulips is they are one of the first spring blooms when we are so hungry for beautiful flowers. I grow unique varieties that have double or fringed petals so they are even more fun.

Tulip bulbs are also being packaged and ready for you to grow. There will be bags of a dozen tulip or daffodil bulbs at Market 87 in Heppner.

I always get questions about digging and storing dahlia tubers. Well this Saturday I’ll be in my overalls and boots out in the flower field digging up dahlia tubers. I’d love for anyone with questions to come on by and check out the process.

They do say that the best way to learn is by doing, so I’ll have some spare shovels if you want some hands on dahlia digging experience!😉

Totally embracing all the fall things over here 🍂
I’ve got my 1,000 piece puzzle out to work on in the evenings. I’ve been stocking up on books to read and tea to drink. Love fall!!

I’ve been working on dried flower pumpkins (the perfect fall decor) and I’ll have them at Love Local Events EO Harvest Market this Saturday the 17th from 10-2 at The Spoo Farm

It’s the first frosty morning here which means a goodbye to the dahlias. 🥶😭

It’s always bitter sweet because it’s sad to see the beauty come to an end but it sort of lifts a weight that allows me to move forward with the work that needs to be done.

The dahlias have been labeled with their varieties, but they still need to be cut back, the drip tape and landscape fabric need to be lifted, and then the great dig will begin. Each of the 750+ dahlia clumps will be dug up, cleaned, divided, and stored for winter. I’m working on updating the dahlia tuber shop online so you can grow them in your garden too!

There is a season for everything and I’m ready to tackle this next one.

Wrap a bouquet with me!

Over the years I’ve wrapped bouquets different ways, but this is truly so simple and gets the job done. The flowers get to be the star of the show and the process of wrapping doesn’t involve a zillion materials or steps.
