If you’re new around here, I thought it was probably time for a little reintroduction post. And if you’ve been here for a while…hi again!

I’m Sam Mitchell, the designer behind Mitchell Design & Co.

I officially launched Mitchell Design & Co. in 2023, but the idea had been quietly growing in my heart for years before that. I’ve always loved homes, architecture, furniture, and the process of taking an idea in my head and turning it into something real.

My path to interior design wasn’t exactly straightforward. I studied architecture, worked in the furniture industry, spent time around home construction and cabinetry, and eventually found myself combining all of those experiences into interior design. Somewhere along the way, I realized this was what I really wanted to do.

For me, design has never been about simply making a room look pretty. I love creating homes that feel collected, personal, comfortable, and timeless, spaces that actually work for the people living in them.

I’m definitely not the designer who wants every room to look like it came from the same catalog. I love mixing old and new, playing with color and texture, incorporating meaningful pieces, and creating spaces that have a story behind them.

And honestly, one of my favorite parts of what I do is the visual side of it. I’ve been creating 3D renderings for years, and there’s something so satisfying about taking an idea that only exists in my head (and my sketchbook) and showing a client exactly what their home could become.

Since launching Mitchell Design & Co., I’ve had the opportunity to work on some really special homes and meet some incredible people along the way. It’s been exciting to watch this little idea become a real business, and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has trusted me with their homes.

When designing bathrooms, there is one element that I swear by….

Towel hooks! As towel rods and rings are commonly used in a majority of homes, I however stick to the hooks. Why? First of all, the towel always hangs the same way. Secondly, it drys evenly. And lastly, you can fit more towels on the wall!

With endless inspiration on Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, AI tools, and DIY shows, it’s easy to believe creating a professionally designed home is simply a matter of copying what you see online.

But, we believe beautiful homes are about far more than inspiration.

What does an interior designer actually do?

Most people think we only choose paint colors, pillows, and furniture. While those details matter, they’re only a small part of what we do.

A designer is responsible for creating a home that functions beautifully before a single piece of furniture arrives. That includes thoughtful space planning, cabinetry layouts, lighting plans, finish selections, construction details, product sourcing, and creating realistic visualizations so you can see your home before work even begins.

Our job is to solve problems, prevent costly mistakes, and bring every detail together into one cohesive vision.

Beautiful homes don’t happen by chance. They happen through careful planning, thoughtful design, and a clear process.
