Bargain John's Antiques 50 Years Dealing in Quality Antiques in Lexington, Nebraska at the same location! www.bargainjohn.com

John and Annette Ostrom started Bargain John’s Antiques in 1968 when after buying and selling from their residence and renting all the local garages they could find. They decided to build a 5,000 square foot building on the corner of Van Buren & Walnut Street, here in Lexington, Nebraska. They operated in this building for about 1 year and then bought the additional property located at 700 Washington Blvd, where our offices and main showrooms are still located today.

Antique Art Nouveau Tiger Oak Rocking Chair (c. 1890–1915)
This exceptional turn-of-the-century American rocking chair is a masterful fusion of heavy Mission-style architecture and intricate Art Nouveau ornamentation. Crafted during the golden age of American furniture design (circa 1890–1915), the piece is constructed from premium solid quarter-sawn “tiger” oak, highly celebrated for its structural stability and striking, shimmering medullary ray grain patterns.
The chair features a commanding, tall backrest adorned with deep, high-relief carvings of stylized floral motifs and swirling, organic vines. This heavily textured, ornate scrollwork is beautifully mirrored along the side paneling beneath the armrests and across the front apron. Balancing this rich texturing are broad, flat, classic Mission-style armrests supported by stout, blocky pillars, which terminate in delicate, round bun feet just above the smoothly curved rocking rails. Designed for both luxury and comfort, the spacious, padded seat cushion is nestled directly into the heavy, robust wooden framework.

We will have this painting on display for the first time at our shop this weekend. Canadian Geese and Fall Harvest Oil Painting by Miles Maryott – Dated 1919.
his is a large painting measuring 33 1/2″ x 49 1/2″.

The artist behind this painting is Miles Julian Maryott, an American artist, taxidermist, and expert marksman whose life story is as dramatic as his artwork. Created in 1919. This specific painting was awarded as a prize in 1924 to G.H. Anderson for winning the Iowa State Trapshooting Singles Championship.
Miles Maryott (1873–1939) was a remarkably talented Nebraska native who worked as a professional baseball player, hunting guide, and skilled wildlife artist. However, his life took a dark turn in 1926 when he shot and killed the sheriff of Oshkosh, Nebraska. He was convicted of the crime and spent the remainder of his life painting from inside the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Because of his tragic history and limited output, his original pieces are highly unique collectibles in the realm of Western and sporting art history.
Miles work can be seen at these Museums
Museum of Nebraska Art (Mona ) in Kearney, Nebraska
Robert Henri Museum in Cozad, Nebraska
There is a paperback book, all about the life of ‘Miles Maryott – His Life & Times by S.A. Sullivan.’
