This one is truly unfortunate. 😔

About 10 months ago, a homeowner reached out to us for a new standing seam metal roof after being referred by one of our past clients. We met, put together a detailed proposal, and walked through everything. Ultimately, they chose another contractor whose price was about 30% lower because it seemed like the same product for significantly less money.

About six months after that roof was installed, I got a phone call I never like to receive.

The roof was leaking in multiple areas, and the installation had been done so poorly that after a thorough inspection, the only responsible solution was a complete replacement. There simply wasn’t a repair that would have addressed the underlying issues.

Today, we began tearing off a standing seam metal roof that is only six months old—a roof that should have lasted 40–70 years.

I genuinely feel for this homeowner. They’ve been incredibly honest about how disappointing this experience has been, and I don’t take any satisfaction in earning this project. It’s a difficult situation that could have been avoided.

The lesson isn’t that the most expensive contractor is always the best. It’s that value matters. Experience matters. Craftsmanship matters. A detailed scope of work, quality installation, and standing behind your work matter.

When it comes to your home, if a price seems too good to be true, it’s worth asking why.

Unfortunately, this homeowner is now paying for a roof twice. We hope sharing this story helps someone else avoid having to do the same.
