The word retreat might be a little misleading when it comes to our annual KCS getaway. 😅

Sure, there was downtime, incredible food (shoutout to Chef Charlie!), and plenty of laughter. But there was also a lot of pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones.

Physically. Mentally. Emotionally.

We challenged ourselves, learned more about each other, had some meaningful conversations, and made memories we won't soon forget.

We believe building a strong team takes intention. It's about more than working well together. It's about knowing, trusting, and genuinely caring about the people beside you.

We're grateful for a team that's willing to show up for experiences like these, and for the clients who understand why we make this investment in our people each year.

It’s hard to sum up a few days like this in a handful of pictures.

Because it wasn’t really one challenge, one conversation, or one moment that made these days what they were.

It was realizing we were off course during our ruck and watching everyone simply figure it out together. No complaining. No blaming. We rucked a little farther than we intended and laughed about it along the way.

It was challenges that forced us to communicate differently, trust each other, and work together when things weren’t easy.

And it was all the moments in between.

The meals. The games. The ice baths. The breathwork. The meals again (because wow). The fires. The conversations. The vulnerability. The laughter. The togetherness.

We learned a lot about each other over these few days. And probably even more about ourselves.

That’s why we step away.

To challenge ourselves. To get outside of our normal routines. To make room for conversations that don’t happen in the middle of a workday. And to actually know the people we spend so much of our lives working beside.

We came home tired, grateful, and a lot more connected than we were when we left.

These are the parts we’ll remember.

We’re back.

Tired. Sore. A little dirty. And really, really grateful.

This photo was taken after a 5.75-mile ruck that took us nearly four hours to finish. And somehow, this might be one of our favorite pictures from the whole trip.

We went away together for a few days to get uncomfortable, challenge ourselves, have some hard conversations, laugh a lot, and know each other a little better than we did before.

There’s a lot more to share about our time away. But for now, this feels like a pretty good picture of it.

We did hard things. We did them together. And we came home a stronger team because of it.

Before anyone with a white kitchen comes for us - don’t worry. 😂 White is still one of the most popular choices we see, and if you love it, we love it for you. These are just the guys’ personal picks after spending their days working in all kinds of homes and spaces.

𝗔 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂… 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱. 🐾🚿

This secondary basement shower might be one of the most 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 we've had the chance to build.

When we came into the Craig project, some of the work had already been started, but before we could move forward, there were areas of the existing framing that needed to be corrected. Sometimes doing a project right means taking a few steps backward first.

From there, our team completed the necessary framing, waterproofed the shower, set all of the tile, completed drywall repairs and helped bring this space across the finish line.

And the finished product is pretty cool.

One side gives the homeowners a full shower, while the other creates a dedicated dog-washing area with its own handheld sprayer, drain and built-in steps for easy access.

It's a pretty great example of why we love custom remodeling. Sometimes the best features aren't about what's trending - they're about designing a space around the way you actually live.

And judging by the photos, we'd say the dog shower has officially passed inspection. 🐶

Once a year, we intentionally step away from the jobsites, the schedules, the tools, and the day-to-day demands of remodeling for our B.U.I.L.T. Together Retreat.

B.U.I.L.T. represents what we expect from ourselves every day:
Be Reliable.
Understand the Details.
Improve Constantly.
Live with Purpose.
Together.

Those things don't happen just because we say they're important. They take intention. They take time spent learning, challenging ourselves, having conversations, building trust, and actually getting to know the people we work beside every day.

So once a year, we make that time.

It means putting our normal work on pause for a bit, and we believe that investment comes back in the way our team communicates, works together, solves problems, and ultimately serves our clients.

Our annual retreat is coming up, and we'll share more afterward.

Because sometimes investing in better remodeling means putting down the tools and investing in the people holding them.
