Public Service Announcement: be careful using cheap products on your expensive furniture, or on any furniture. This massive, gorgeous White Oak dining table was left riddled with mysterious pink stains after a themed birthday party. The color or dye in this $12 plastic tablecloth somehow transferred and bled down into the existing (and extremely durable) finish. It has something to do with "plasticizers," whatever those are. It was refinished and all is well again, but something to be mindful of. If this has happened to you, call me.

Here's a really nice 1940s Walnut dining table. It wasn't in terrible shape, having been redone at some point not too long ago, but the finish was a bit wanting and most importantly, the leaves did not match. This is pretty common if leaves have been left in storage for years or the table gets refinished without them. The client was adamant that the table deserved to match, and I think they were right.

Some before and after images of a pretty interesting Cherry dining table. This might be the first table I've seen where the base itself slides in half when leaves are inserted. Nice quality, all thick shop-sawn veneers and solid pedestal. Looks great now.

Can I bring something back to life for you?

'Before' images of an uncommon pair of nightstands or end tables from the 'Tower Suite' collection by Lane. This line of furniture is kind of in that higher-end transitional territory where the modern, mid-century components are all there but with a few newer early 70s wrinkles. The biggest new wrinkle in this case, unfortunately, was the choice of finish: a flecked, or splattered, opaque medium brown, like the kind that was popular on faux rustic Pecan furniture. This seems inexplicable today, given the choice of materials, because the result was just muddy and killed any contrast between the fine Walnut veneers and Brazilian Rosewood inlays and handles. The finish here is clearly shot and will be corrected properly. These will be available for sale, along with a matching nine-drawer dresser and a pair of mirrors. If interested, reach out and they can be tailored to your requests.

Kitchen cabinet doors in the stripping tank. These are for a DIY Weekend Warrior who plans to apply the new finish themselves, but they know that time is money and that commercially-available methylene chloride-free furniture stripper doesn't work. If this is a project you've been considering, reach out and spare yourself the headache, mess, and regretful purchase of "safe," but ineffective, chemicals.

Quick Oak table top. Client was tired of having to use a tablecloth. They don't have to hide anything anymore because the new catalyzed conversion varnish topcoat will outperform the original factory lacquer finish in every way, including appearance. It resists moisture, chemicals, and alcohol much better and it has a much higher solids content, which means greater durability without looking like plastic.
