ry is home to hand-made artisan jewelry, home decor, purses, holiday decorations, garden art, toys, and a lot of everyday items that I covered with tile (as I'm inclined to do). In the studio, there's usually a class filled with folks of all ages - from beginner to advanced - talking, laughing, and making art together. I first started producing a line of functional mosaic wares in the early 90s, and was soon commissioned to create pieces for Marshall Fields, Urban Outfitters, and the Palace of Qatar, among others. At the time, there was a very limited palette of mosaic material commercially available - so I created my own, using a thin, but sound 4x4 bisque tile, and applied custom glazes, achieving colors and effects rarely seen in tiles. I also broke from traditional mosaic technique and hand-cut each tile into a variety of shapes, rather than just using different sizes of tile squares. The work paid off, with the unique tiles resulting in stunning pictorials and bold geometric designs. I hope you enjoy them and are inspired to create your own mosaic masterpiece.
