Late 19th Century Gilt Bronze Mounted Louis XVI Style Inlaid Marquetry and Parquetry Cabinet By Theodore Millet

The large marble top above a bronze frieze and a central single drawer decorated with bronzes of satyrs and instruments surrounded by scrolling branches with foliage, berries and birds, the drawer opens with a spring-loaded secret release. The central door with gilt bronze floral swags and ribbons above wonderfully inlaid flowers and foliate designs, front and side panels with crossband diamond parquetry.

Signed Millet A Paris to the bronze rim.

Each of baluster form with domed cover with pine cone finial, above a waisted neck and bulbous body finely painted with Watteau-esque scènes within a gilt-scrollwork cartouche, the reverse with outdoor scenes of peasants with animals in front of a mountain range, with acanthus and loop handles, on a circular spreading socle and square canted base.

The frieze centered by a large basket filled with fruits and flowers, surrounded by trophies and flanked by ribbon-tied swags, the angles headed by female masks with suspended musical and floral pendants, the central bevelled glazed panelled door with bronze relief plaque depicting playing putti, the interior with mirrored back and three glass adjustable shelves, on foliate-hipped cabriole legs tapering to scrolled sabots.

Stamped ‘CT LINKE/SERRURERIE/PARIS’ on the back of the lock.
