One of my favorite parts of flower farming is that there’s always something to look forward to 🌸

These are some of our very first early summer blooms making their appearance in the tunnel and while they’re stealing the show right now, they’re just the opening act.

More color, more abundance, and more flowers are on their way.

🌷 Weekend Recap from the Farm 🌷

What a beautiful (and busy!) weekend here at Back Forty Flower Farm!

The tulips continue to put on an incredible show, and while their season is beginning to wind down, they sure aren’t leaving quietly. The fields and bouquets have been overflowing with color, and we’ve loved sharing every last stem with you. 💐

But as one flower takes its final bow, another is preparing for its moment in the spotlight…

✨ The high tunnel is filling up with promise! Snapdragons are stretching taller by the day, the first ranunculus buds are developing, and so many summer blooms are steadily gaining size and strength. Every walk through the tunnel feels a little more exciting than the last.

This weekend also brought plenty of farm work:
🌱 Peppers were planted
🍅 Tomatoes were trellised
🌿 We weeded to our year’s content (or at least it feels that way!)
🌸 And we spent extra time tending to the peony patch, making sure those gorgeous blooms are healthy and ready for their much-anticipated debut.

The peonies are slowly sizing up, and if you’ve been following along, you know we’re counting down the days until their season arrives. There’s something special about seeing the farm transition from spring into summer, with each flower patiently waiting for its turn to shine.

For now, we’re soaking in the last of the tulips, celebrating the progress in the fields, and looking ahead to all the beauty that’s still to come.

After 10 beautiful weeks of specialty tulips, this is it—the final weekend to grab a tulip bouquet from the farm until next spring! 🥹

Every flower on the farm has its season, and tulips are always one of the sweetest (and shortest) chapters. We’ve loved sharing these unique, ruffled, double, and parrot tulips with you all spring, and we’re so grateful for the support you’ve shown our little flower farm.

And just like that… it’s the LAST week of specialty tulips until next spring 🥹 After weeks of armfuls of blooms, the tulip season is coming to a close here on the farm. Their season may be short, but oh how beautiful it’s been.

It’s also the last day of school for LPGE! 🎉
Come celebrate the start of summer by picking up a bouquet for a teacher, staff member, or administrator who helped your kids grow this year — or simply grab a bundle of beauty for yourself or your student to kick off summer break ☀️

🌷 After 10 straight weeks of fresh specialty tulips… this weekend will be your last chance to grab a tulip bouquet from the farm until next spring! 🌷

One of the most beautiful parts of flower farming is that every flower has its own season to shine. In Minnesota, those windows can feel especially short — which makes them all the more special.

This year, I’m incredibly proud that we were able to enjoy tulips for as long as we did. Last fall we planted 10,750 tulip bulbs with hopes of a beautiful spring season ahead. In the cut flower world, you always have to anticipate loss from Mother Nature, disease, short stems, weather, and all the unpredictable things that come with farming.

For us, that rang true — and from those 10,750 bulbs, we were able to harvest, process, and bouquet around 7,000 stems this season. 🌷

There is so much time, planning, energy, and love poured into every crop we grow, but tulips (and dahlias!) definitely hold the title for the most labor-intensive around here. Seeing your excitement every weekend has made every early morning and late night worth it. Thank you for supporting our little flower farm and making this spring such a success. 💛

And while tulip season is coming to a close… the next season of flowers is just beginning! We can’t wait to start bringing you mixed bouquets filled with ranunculus, stock, snapdragons, feverfew, and so much more. ✨

🌷 FARMSTAND UPDATE + A SWEET LITTLE SURPRISE 🐣

We didn’t have the heart to move this robin’s nest when we opened the stand for the season… and now the babies are starting to hatch 🥹💙
