San Jose is considering passing this law which would strip property owners of some of their rights.

COPA would require the owners of multifamily housing (2+ units) to first contact the City and inform the Corporate Non-Profits of their intention to sell and wait a period of time between 15 days and 40 days to allow the Corporate Nofits to make an offer prior to placing their property on the market or engaging in any type of advertising or conversation about their property. During the waiting period, it would be illegal for the seller or his or her REALTOR(R) to advertise in any way or even speak to anyone who could be a prospective buyer. While the City's current discussions about COPA include 2+ units (or a SFH+2 ADUs), the initial intention was to include single-family homes, and if passed, their inclusion could occur at any time.

Government should not be involved in free market.
