July brings with it a feeling of ease, relaxation, and peace. The weather is warm, the days are long, and summer is in full bloom. This month’s inspiration comes from Marella Agnelli and the bohemian spirit of her home in Marrakech. She decorated it with an eclectic mix of Moroccan, English, and Italian pieces. Each room felt collected over time, yet everything worked together beautifully. When we think of exotic interiors, we are reminded of our Pacific Palisades dining room, featured as part of our 15 Rooms We Love series. The walls were covered in blue-and-white batik fabrics, creating a transportive space that feels as though it could be somewhere far away.
For this month’s favorites, I wanted to capture that same spirit through pieces that evoke midsummer and the romance of Marrakech. White caftans, straw hats and bags, and wicker furniture all feel perfect for the season. Marella Agnelli loved the color pink, and there is an iconic photograph of her wearing a pink gown by Cristóbal Balenciaga. I found a new pink Balenciaga dress that I believe captures that same elegant spirit. Marella also loved flowers, and I have always admired Tommy Mitchell’s tole flowers, which are beautiful all year. I have been spending time in England recently, and I especially love these English plates decorated with delicate pink flowers. Marella’s gardens in Marrakech were sublime, and each of these pieces reminds me of the lush beauty in summer.
My July Favorites, inspired by the bohemian spirit of Marrakech, the beauty of gardens, and the ease of summertime.
