I just really wanted to imagine this painting in a space 🫢 and then I got carried away with collage-ing and I loved it! I've been loving mixing patterns and clashing colors and just having fun with whimsical decor ideas. Thinking of how I can incorporate my paintings into these sort of dopamine drenching interiors is so fun 🤩💗 I also ordered a glue gun so I can DIY some crafty, frilly, ruffle, fun, sparkly, funky frames 🐊💎⭐️

I just want to have this chair tbh 🤣 I love a funky furniture piece. And orange is definitely becoming one of my favorite colors despite hearing a ton of people absolutely HATE it 🤣🤣🤣 I actually love mixing saturated and desaturated colors in paintings. It gives a bit of an uncanny, interesting effect that I rarely see in life. But anyway, The Home Is Where The Gnome Is painting has arrived at / for an exhibition and auction where 50% of the proceeds go to charity ⭐️ To bid on the ✨️original✨️ email the gallery - or if you are interested George, South Africa, go bid in person!!!

As a little girl, my grandparents would take me to a local "fairy village" filled with scattered fairy homes and handmade furniture and bits and pieces of stories to piece together and you got to move through them and peek into the windows. I was suuuper into fairies and gnomes. It is such a fun memory to reimagine in this scene of a little Gnome girl sitting in the garden (going somewhere, meeting someone, looking at the bugs?) My grandad also used to say to keep my eyes open in case I saw one, and that is a piece of my childhood that I'll carry into my son's childhood. You might have noticed the Sun as a repeating theme in my artworks. My son's nickname is Sonnetjie, and in my first language (Afrikaans) it translates to Little Sun. Soo then of course, there is a Sun watching from the sky, waiting to get a peak at something magical... So I present:

When I was a teenager, I used to scroll Amnesty International's website and Greenpeace's job opportunities. I never wanted to run away with the circus. I wanted to run away with Greenpeace 🤭 It used to be my dream to be an art therapist, and then I "discovered" social work. 💭💭💭 I've gotten this question so much: Why social work??? Well, I have a postgraduate BSocSci Hons in Psychology and my itch wasn't scratched. Then I learned how social work has this HUGE component of social justice and advocacy. 💪 The more I learned about South Africa's social work philosophy (focusing on supporting a person through individual therapy, group therapy, AND community intervention to address an issue from ALL ITS INFLUENCES), the more confident I felt in my decision to pursue my third degree... 🎓 Being able to directly advocate for the rights and collaborate directly with autistic and AuDHD individuals is an integral part of my life and sense of purpose. I guess I'd like to have both parts of my toast buttered 🥪🥪🥪

Nothing is apolitical! Nothing exists in a vacuum. Politics is a PROCESS about enforcing and painting POWER. Every decision you make, every decision you REFUSE to make, is political. So you may as well stop being passive and take a stand, because staying quiet says a lot too.

I've been loving creating these images to express themes that have been on my mind. I feel like it could be easy to see my paintings and think "whimsical!" "fun!" "cute!" but the joy and dopamine that I exert through painting and my subject matter is resistance to the bitterness and apathy that I've been noticing in the world lately.

Be very clear on this - I will always take a stand💪

When I am in public, I will say what I must.

And when I am alone and creating playful art, I am taking a stand.

As I am a chronic oversharer, here are 5 hyperfixations I've had in the last 8 year too:
1. Dogs. I have 4 dogs. Fostered another golden oldie Australian Shepherd. Can't live without them. Would definitely get more if I could afford it 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕
2. Coloring books for adults 🤪🤪🤪 Some have told me that it's a bit cringe, but who am I if not a queen of cringe.
3. Collecting art books and children's books with ✨️✨️stunning✨️✨️ illustration 🤩 Although Amazon lost my The Queen in the Cave copy that I waited over a month for. Still hoping it's recovered somewhere 🥲
4. Autism. LOL, a woman gets diagnosed, she reads all the books, she *finally understands*
5. Reading 📚📖📚📖 OH man is there anything better than rediscovering your teenage love of reading??? Although I moved from YA romantasy to now loving weird girl horror and q***r magical realism (Jordaline Reads, hi!) 🫢🤩✨️

I just had a class on social welfare policy and my battery is LOW. But I am so grateful to be in my final year of social work 🤯 and will hopefully be done this year 🤞 Life took some turns - I have a four year degree in Fine Art with a psyc major, a BSocSci Hons in Psychology, and now I'm doing my Bachelor of Social Work. I do have to say that I'm excited to be done after 10 years of university (freedom I can smell ya) 🕊🕊🕊🕊 So we'll continue to use WHIMSY AS PROTEST to the bleakness of 2026 and use it as fuel to create change ⭐️⭐️⭐️💎💎💎🐊🐊🐊
