We can help you create your very own perfect color! Our active decks have over 300 colors between all of our finishes, but sometimes the right one just isn’t in there. A little old-world charm in the desert. 🌵

This 1950s Palm Springs ranch got a complete reimagining, and in the primary bedroom, Eastwood set the tone. The warm, creamy finish adds subtle movement to the walls and keeps the room feeling bright without going the typical all-white route. Paired with linen, wood, vintage-inspired pieces, and sculptural lighting, the space feels relaxed, warm, and collected.

We love how a simple finish can completely shift the feeling of a space. Eastwood proves that you don’t need to go stark white to make a room feel light- just warm, dimensional, and full of character.

A beautiful new chapter, and we’re so excited to be part of it.

Amber Lewis’s new book, Interiors, takes you inside the process behind nine incredible homes; from the first ideas to the final install. We’re honored to have Portola featured throughout several of these beautifully crafted spaces, showcasing everything from traditional Acrylic to the depth and movement of Roman Clay.

A few favorites making an appearance: Raffia, Figueroa, Pindari, and Piano Room, each bringing its own character to these thoughtfully designed spaces.

Two years, a lot of troweling, and one very good reason to visit Tucson.🌵

Casa Coronado began as a 1973 desert home with good bones and 50 years of untouched plumbing and electrical. Engineers by trade, the owners took on the renovation themselves, learning to work with a trowel and applying Roman Clay by hand throughout the house.

Patagonia became the throughline, extending from the walls onto every ceiling after they first tried the finish in the Marrakech suite and fell hard for it.

The result is a desert retreat that feels organic, considered, and entirely its own.

We’d like to submit this for “rooms we wish we had at 13.”

For a preteen’s room, we’re into the fact that this one feels more like a seriously good hotel suite than a kid’s bedroom. Quell gives the walls serious depth, while Boondocks on the ceiling adds warmth overhead. The rest is a very good argument for letting kids have some design opinions of their own.

The question behind one of our most-shared color tips: how do you know if a color will actually work in your space? We’re running this one back 🗣️

Photos are great inspo, but what you see online isn’t always what shows up on your walls. Lighting, flooring, furniture, even your window direction can totally shift how a color feels.

That’s why sampling in real life is key.
Here’s how to sample like a pro (and actually love your final color) ↓

• Work with what’s already in the room- think floors, furniture, cabinets, and any existing paint that’s staying. Look for colors with similar undertones for a more seamless palette.

• Sample on movable boards or cards- this makes it easy to test the color in different spots, under different lighting, and at different times of day.

• Use the same number of coats you’ll use in the final application- many finishes evolve with more (or less) product, so don’t cut corners here.

• Give it time- let your samples fully dry. Some materials (especially Roman Clay and Lime Wash) can shift in color, sheen, and feel as they cure.

• Check in throughout the day- a color that feels warm at noon might read totally different by sunset. Make sure you love it in every light.

Piano Room, in its natural habitat.

This room was designed around a family heirloom grand piano- and the story behind it. The piano had been in the family for generations, making it a meaningful centerpiece for a room centered around music and family history.

Roman Clay was used throughout the space, bringing subtle movement and depth to the walls while keeping the palette warm and tonal. The color was a natural fit for the room, and the name felt pretty perfect, too.
