I’m on the hunt for the perfect treasures to finally photograph our Hancock Park project after 2 years! So I’m diving into inspiration for the feeling we poured into these rooms to make sure we capture it on camera. For this historical home it was always about keeping the character that made it beautiful in the first place while making it comfortable for a busy family. I’m confident we did just that and actually helped bring back some of the original charm! See the last slide for what the listing photo looked like to know where we started and my last post to see where we are pre-styling 😍

This and that behind the scenes from checking in to my almost there projects, to problem solving on our feet mid construction projects to getting away to cute mountain towns for fresh air.

I feel like I crashed landed into back to school from summer and my escapism into books lately is helping me stay sane!!

Where my Romantasy girlies at?! I went from basically only reading mysteries to give me all the fantasy all the time and Rachel Gilligs atmospheric prose is so inspiring!

Renovation Musts: or what I handle so you don’t have to lose sleep over it 😜

Space planning is non-negotiable. Even with a great architect, a house often won’t be as livable as it could be without a second set of eyes. An architect ensures it can get built. I ensure it can be enjoyed.

Hire a GC who’s communicative and cares about the details, not just the bottom line. Going with the lowest bid every time will almost always cost you more in the end, once the mistakes start showing up and the delays linger you spent that anyways with more stress along the way.

Design before demo. Don’t start building and then try to pick out finishes as you go. The order matters more than people think.

If you’re not sure what any of this means, don’t have the time to manage all these details yourself, or want to build a home with character, attention to detail, and integrity, not just a house, I’d love to talk.

Inspiration to installed, from a project I never stepped foot in!

This shower has become one of my favorites this year, and I didn’t even take the photos. My client sent these herself, straight from her own bathroom with total excitement in how we got this gorgeous space together without even being on the same coast!

That hand-blocked tile against aged brass is exactly the kind of detail I love layering in.

I don’t shoot every project, especially the distance ones. But when a client sends updates like this, I can’t help but share.

Hanging on to summer by continuing to shape our Basin Bay project. The thing I miss most about the east coast living in LA is the density of the trees. There is just something to me that feels more grounded and comforting about being surrounded by them than open space. I’d take a lake day over a beach day every day 😜

You know what’s good for your brain? Being able to switch it up. Last week I introduced our Lake Project in Upstate NY, and this week I’m dropping the details on a project that’s in my own backyard. They’re wildly different, and I’m loving bouncing between the two, honing in on how we pull personality into a basic LA new build so the clients feel like the place is truly theirs. That means a black house on the outside, tons of punchy color, sculptural forms, and a decidedly surfer rock vibe on the inside.

It’s always fun working with a client who’s an artist, they bring such creative ideas. Often my job is to interrupt those and pull ideas into the function and flow of a home, while still being their editor and interpreter.

Throwback to one of my favorite projects, because it came together by leaning all the way into what the client loved most, her own garden.
Soft, warm color stories that echo the flowers right outside. Rustic vintage pieces, like this armoire I still think about, married with the clean lines of her mid-century ranch. Nothing matchy, nothing precious. Just an honest mix of old and new that will allow this family to continue to grow and feel at peace here.

I’ll be thinking of this one as a build together our lake house project and a new one I’m excited to introduce next week that is basically in my own backyard!

I’m so excited to share that we’re kicking off a new project on Lake George, in a part of the world that means everything to me. My family’s cabin has sat on this lake for five generations, and there’s something full circle about getting to design here for a family, so close to where my own kids are making their summer memories too. This one is going to be full of warmth and rustic charm, but with fun modern touches woven in, some earthy colors, a dash of pattern play and vintage vibes. Can’t wait to bring you along for this one.

Back from my yearly trip to the east coast, where I got to reconnect with family and nature and refill my cup. I did a lot of thinking out there about where I want to take my brand, how I approach projects, and the kinds of clients I want to work with.

It helped me hone in on my trajectory and refocus my energy on what matters most. New content is coming soon as I reorient toward that. Excited for this next chapter of Gilded Hearth to unfold 🌙
