Women have always been at the vanguard of botany, horticulture & plant research. Ethel Earley-Clark, was the first president and only woman of the Negro Garden Club of Virginia, founded in 1932. Blossoming from just seven chapters to sixty-five in less than a decade, the organization brought thousands of Black gardeners together to share their experiences and beautify local neighborhoods.
