I like to think of most colours as neutrals.

It’s probably why I spend a fair bit of time encouraging clients to look beyond the obvious neutrals when choosing larger pieces. A sofa doesn’t have to disappear into a room to feel timeless.

To me, this golden sesame velvet is every bit as versatile as a traditional neutral, but it brings so much more warmth and personality.

I’m a huge fan of a built-in dining nook.

Whether it’s tucked into a corner or positioned between two rooms, it creates somewhere people naturally want to gather over meals, work with a cup of coffee, or spread out a puzzle on a rainy afternoon (or with the AC on if you’re in sunny SoCal). Hidden storage is just an added bonus.

It’s often the smallest details that end up defining a piece.

The turned legs, raised lip and woven paper rope shelf each play a part in giving the Bowland Coffee Table its character. The lower shelf can be styled or left bare, depending on how you like to live.

The best homes are designed around the people who live in them, quietly supporting everyday life.

This shared bathroom was designed for two brothers, with separate sinks, dedicated storage and space for each of them to make the room their own. It’s a simple detail, but one that makes busy mornings just that little bit easier.

This sideboard (and its sister nightstand and dresser) took more back and forth than almost any other piece in the collection.

I was determined to keep the curved front and double bullnose stone top. They’re subtle details, but together they give each piece its softness and character.

I’ve always loved pattern, fabric and wallpaper, but I love the quiet space around them just as much.

The bed becomes the focal point, layered with block prints and woven texture, while the walnut bedside table, ceramic lamp and painted landscape provide quieter moments. Against the lavender-blue walls, the deep blue headboard quietly anchors everything, allowing each element to find its place.

A reading corner is something I’ll almost always find a place for if the room allows.

A comfortable chair, atmospheric lighting (no big lights, please!) and a door you can close. Sometimes that’s all you need to create a little corner to escape to for a few minutes.

I’m designing a lot of kitchens at the moment, and it’s reminded me not to be afraid of using more than one cabinet colour.

Here, we paired natural oak with two painted cabinet colours (one soft and one richer in tone) alongside aged brass, a vintage runner and leather stools. Each material brings something different, creating a kitchen that feels warm, layered and quietly inviting.

Already a quarter of the way through July, and I’m only just getting around to my June recap. At the start of summer, I found myself wishing I’d booked a big summer holiday. Between running a business, raising a toddler, and looking after two dogs, taking extended time away just isn’t realistic right now.

June also brought the launch of my latest furniture collection with Lulu and Georgia, On Holiday, a project that had been years in the making. It feels fitting that the collection was inspired by creating that relaxed, away-from-it-all feeling at home, because that’s exactly what these little weekends have given us.

Looking through my June camera roll, all I see are weekends spent at the beach, mornings at the splash park, and a wonderful long weekend in the most charming beach cottage on Hollywood Beach in Oxnard. One of the greatest gifts of living in Southern California is that these little escapes are never far away.

Since mini me came along, I’ve found myself exploring corners of Los Angeles I’d never even heard of before. It’s reminded me that adventure doesn’t always require a passport. Work is busy, but these simple weekends have been the highlight of my summer so far.

One of my goals for the Lulu and Georgia furniture collection was flexibility and creating pieces that could be mixed and matched with ease. Here, the Bowland Dining Table is paired with the Kirkham Dining Chair, designed to work together seamlessly while sitting comfortably alongside vintage finds and the furniture you already own.
