The first cookbook from the cult-status Asian grocery store chain is a visual celebration with Korean recipes, ingredient spotlights, cultural deep dives, how-tos, and more.

When the first H Mart opened in 1982, it was just a humble grocery store in Queens, carrying the most basic of Korean ingredients. In the 43 years since then, the tiny shop has grown into America’s largest Asian supermarket chain. And for the nearly 20 million Asian Americans living across the country, H Mart has become more than a simple grocery store. It’s a place of community, a joyous connection to their culture and heritage. Cooking with H Mart is here to bring that joy home. This gorgeous, oversized cookbook and guidebook contains everything a person could ever want to know about H Mart: From its history and profiles to ingredient spotlights and how-tos.

The highlight of the book is the 75 home-cook friendly recipes that make the most of H Mart’s ingredients. There are classic Korean dishes, like Spicy Cucumber Salad (Oi Muchim), Braised Beef Short Ribs (Galbi Jjim), and Stir-Fried Sweet Potato Noodles (Japchae) as well as unique twists using contemporary flavors. Pizza-Stuffed Fish-Shaped Waffles (Pizza Bunggeobbang) rethinks a popular Korean street food by swapping out the traditional red bean paste with pizza toppings. And Cheesy Kimchi Fried Rice (Cheese Buldak Kimchi Bokkeumbap) combines hot sauce, spicy kimchi, and mozzarella to make a truly addictive comfort meal.

Overflowing with brilliantly colored photography and illustrations, charts, and infographics, Cooking with H Mart will help any reader make the most of their next grocery run.

We’re thrilled to welcome back Erin Jeanne McDowell to the shop to celebrate BAKE ANYTHING, the new handbook from the New York Times bestselling author of THE BOOK ON PIE.

The idea is simple and kind of brilliant: master 11 building blocks, and the whole baking world opens up. One batch of vanilla sugar cookie dough becomes iced cookies, a classic fruit tart, or a stacked birthday cookie cake. Her famously lofty biscuits top a cobbler, turn into cinnamon cream cheese “danishes,” get stuffed and pressed into waffles, or become the crust for a quiche. From there it’s pâte à choux into cream puff cake, crème anglaise into s’mores mousse cake, brioche into doughnuts, and yeasted puff pastry into croissants and morning buns. Every chapter comes with step-by-step photos, QR codes to how-to videos, and make-ahead notes so fresh pastries in the morning don’t require a 4 AM alarm.

Erin will be in conversation with recipe developer Holly🍴 Foodmaker who knows a thing or two about turning one good idea into a dozen 🍪

Erin has taught so many of us to bake with more confidence and less fear, and this book feels like the fullest expression of that: less about following rules, more about understanding them well enough to play. We can’t wait to hear how it came together.

Toni Tipton Martin returns to the shop for a deep dive into Edna Lewis’s THE TASTE OF COUNTRY COOKING — 50 years on, and just as essential.

In her new foreword to the anniversary edition, Tipton-Martin traces her own journey with the book: how Miss Lewis’s seasonal, precise cooking reshaped what she understood about Black foodways, and how TASTE helped dismantle the narrow, flattened image of the Black female cook that had long defined the genre. She writes about meeting Lewis in person, being handed a signed copy of The Edna Lewis Cookbook, and watching this new edition arrive to introduce a whole generation to a body of work she calls essential.

We’ll talk about Lewis’s legacy, Tipton-Martin’s own scholarship in THE JEMIMA CODE, what she’s working on next, and how a book rooted in one Virginia farming community ended up reshaping the way we understand American food itself.

And gilding the lily, Rashida Holmes of Bridgetown Roti will be on hand serving up bites to tie it all together.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 • 6 PM

We’re welcoming back Toni Tipton Martin — three-time James Beard Award–winning food journalist, culinary historian, editor, and cookbook author — for an evening dedicated to one of the most significant works in American cooking: Edna Lewis’s THE TASTE OF COUNTRY COOKING.

Fifty years after its first publication, this newly repackaged and redesigned anniversary edition arrives with a new foreword by Tipton-Martin. Long before “farm-to-table” was a phrase anyone used, Miss Lewis was already writing it into practice — Baked Virginia Ham and Corn Muffins in one season, Oyster Stew and Lemon Meringue Pie in another, field greens in spring, pan-fried chicken and crushed peaches in summer, sweet potatoes come fall. It’s a book built entirely around the rhythm of the seasons, rooted in the Virginia farming community where she grew up.

We’ll spend the evening with Tipton-Martin exploring Lewis’s legacy and asking where Southern cooking stands today, well past the era of Nashville hot chicken as the genre’s loudest export. Books this foundational don’t come around the shop often, and we’re honored to celebrate this one properly.

Also to gild the lily, there will be inspired bites by none other than Rashida Holmes of Bridgetown Roti ✨

This Sunday morning at the iconic The Hollywood Farmers' Market, we’re setting up shop with something bright and green 🥬💚

We’re teaming up with NYT Cooking and Food Access LA at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market for a book signing & meet-and-greet with Tanya Sichynsky, author of the beloved NYT Cooking newsletter “The Veggie” and now her debut cookbook, VEG EVERYTHING.

100 recipes that make the case that vegetarian cooking is anything but a life of side dishes — Cauliflower Shawarma with Tahini for a weeknight dinner, Creamed Greens Pot Pie for the holiday table, a Golden Potato and Greens Soup that turns your crisper drawer into the main event. Shape-shifting tofu, decadent veg-packed pastas, pantry staples reworked — a book for the veg-devoted and veg-skeptical alike.

We can’t think of a better place to shop this one than a farmers’ market — produce in hand, recipes in mind.

Tanya will be signing books and saying hello all morning.

Find us at the heart of the market at the intersection of Selma and Ivar.

SUNDAY, SEPT 20th 8am–12pm
See you at the market!
