our update. we’ve had this property for a year now while life and work and renovating our new studio and opening a gallery gallery sss … kept me too busy to start on the design plan but in the meantime rupert samuel has peeled back the layers and done some exploratory demo. I was there this weekend for the first time in months and it was more than enough to renew my excitement. It’s so nice to start with it as a mostly clean slate. And happy to dive in and finally put pen to paper.

also for those curious from my paint sample stories. Slipper satin farrow and ball is the winner for our exterior color.

take a step inside gallery sss!
after a year of construction and planning for this 1800s building we’ve opened the doors with an inaugural exhibition “Homecoming”.

The exhibition features 14 artists from all over the country that either grew up or studied in the Midwest but have gone on to create elsewhere. It explores how the region’s landscapes, seasons, materials, and cultural rhythms continue to inform creative practices shaped in places far beyond their origins. At its heart, Homecoming is about the complicated and enduring relationship between where we come from and the work we go on to make.

Oh hi! Just over here recovering from last week right in time to freak out about launch day. My fall collection “LOOK AROUND”, for Lulu and Georgia is out today!

This collection started with just that…looking around. Looking outside, looking closer, noticing the shapes, patterns, colors, and details that are so easy to pass by.

There are nods to architecture in pieces like the Trellis Chair and Lincoln Dining Table, and to the natural world in more distilled forms… from the floral motifs to the Tikkiri rug, a pared-back take on a tiger print. Verdigris finishes, sculptural silhouettes, rich woods, chrome, and the Untamed Garden print I originally painted by hand all found their way in.

It’s also about what happens when you keep looking. Details reveal themselves slowly, materials shift, forms surprise you, and things become more interesting the closer you get.

An invitation to stay curious, LOOK AROUND, and bring a little of what you notice back home.

Im so excited to finally share it with you! 🤎

We are opening our doors!

I’m thrilled to announce our inaugural exhibition at gallery sss. A group show of artists whose roots trace back to Michigan and the greater Midwest.

The exhibition explores how the region’s landscapes, seasons, materials, and cultural rhythms continue to inform creative practices shaped in places far beyond their origins. At its heart, Homecoming is about the complicated and enduring relationship between where we come from and the work we go on to make.

The new SSS 2026 collection, at home in the Shirakaba House.

We photographed the collection here because the house felt so naturally in conversation with the work… its low horizontal rooflines, wood-clad interiors, connection to the landscape, and Frank Lloyd Wright sensibility echoing many of the ideas behind the collection itself.

There’s something about seeing these pieces, shaped by my own memories of Michigan within a piece of Michigan design history that brought the whole story full circle.

The full collection is now live at sarahshermansamuel.com

Thank you to my team especially on shoot day… blood, sweat, tears, pulled muscles and all.

The new SSS 2026 collection is here, along with an entirely new sarahshermansamuel.com!

The collection is an extension of a language I’ve been developing through previous pieces like the Ledge Table, Monument Table, Alba Chair, and Skimming Stones Tables, all of which have been deeply influenced by the Michigan landscape, the land that hosted so many of my earliest experiences of the outdoors.

The relationship between memory, the built environment, and the natural landscape became an underlying narrative for the new collection. Flying kites on the beach, building forts in the woods and being surrounded by rivers, trees, stones, and water. Those references found their way into the work… sometimes intentionally, sometimes more quietly, through elemental forms, irregular edges, and small details made by hand.

Each piece is designed by me and made here locally, continuing a long tradition of furniture making and craftsmanship that I’m incredibly proud to be a part of.

The full collection is live now. I hope you’ll spend some time exploring the new pieces…and our new gallery sss home online.
