While the afternoons still carry that late-summer heat, the evenings bring a much-needed breeze off Lake Lewisville.
We replaced the standard sliding unit with a high-performance multi-slide system featuring a flush-track threshold. This creates a zero-barrier transition, allowing guests to move freely from the living to the outdoor pool without the typical trip hazard. To combat the relentless Texas sun, we utilized a specific Low-E powder coating, blocking 95% of UV rays while keeping the interior a crisp 72°F.🏠🔅

The solution paired expansive sliding systems with a continuous row of clerestory windows. The large openings create a stronger visual connection to the outdoors, while the upper glazing brings daylight across the ceiling.🏠🪟
Here, the window configuration follows the architecture rather than competing with it.

That’s where Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, or SHGC, becomes an important number to understand.
A lower SHGC generally means less solar heat enters through the glazing. For homes exposed to intense desert sun, that can be an important consideration alongside U-Factor, glass configuration, and shading strategy.🪟
The key is not simply choosing the lowest number available. The right glazing specification depends on the home’s orientation, climate, window size, and overall design.
