For Philip Stites, a great object begins with three things: quality, style, and age, in that order.

Over nearly four decades in the antiques world, he has built an eye through constant looking, years of buying trips across Europe and Asia, and a willingness to let centuries mingle. Today, his La Cienega gallery brings together 18th-century antiques, 20th-century design, textiles, and newly made pieces from PSMADE, all with the same point of view: the best objects make one another better.

In our latest Q&A, Philip talks about growing up in Kansas, the early Therien years, the changing landscape of Los Angeles design, and why the thrill of finding something exceptional still hasn’t worn off.

A look back at the “Best Seat in the House.”

Ten years ago, Jamie Bush Jamie Bush + Co created one of our favorite Legends windows for Richard Shapiro Studiolo, a perfect meeting of two distinct design sensibilities.

Playing off that year’s “One of a Kind” theme, layers of found chairs set the scene in a series of color-soaked vignettes, while a singular piece from Shapiro’s collection took center stage in each window.

Simple, clever, and still so good.

The windows at Legends 2027, taking place March 1–5, will celebrate “The Art of Atmosphere.” Each year, we look forward to seeing how designers bring the theme to life.

Interior designer Billy Cotton and SOANE BRITAIN founder Lulu Lytle came together at Legends 2026 to talk about their collaboration and the shared values behind it, from craft and preservation, to the people and processes behind the objects we live with.

Lawson-Fenning has teamed up with Sunbrella® on a new collection of performance textiles designed to live beautifully indoors and out. Inspired by the landscapes Glenn Lawson and Grant Fenning return to again and again, from Santa Barbara and the Hudson Valley to the South of France, the palette moves through earthy, saturated tones made to hold their own in sun and everyday life.

Seven textural weaves include Graph, an exclusive windowpane pattern developed for Lawson-Fenning, alongside colors with names like Topanga, Chaparral, Manzanita, Yucca, and Madrona.

A Los Angeles original, 50 years in the making.

Since Rose Tarlow opened her first antiques shop in 1976, her singular eye has made Rose Tarlow Melrose House a favorite destination for generations of designers. Today, the Robertson Boulevard showroom brings together antiques and art with textiles, furniture, and objects gathered over a lifetime of looking.

Over the years, an early breakfast here has become a favorite Legends tradition, with coffee, crêpes, and time to wander through the showroom before the day begins.

Architecture was the starting point. Interiors became the calling.

Trained as an architect, Ashley Lavonne found her way to interiors through an early experience that opened her eyes to its possibilities, setting her on a path to become one of Los Angeles’ most exciting design voices.

That architectural foundation is still very much present in her work. She looks to the history of a house, the rituals of the people who live there, and the reason behind every design decision, whether introducing color, rethinking a room, or deciding what should be preserved.

After joining us as a panelist at Legends 2026, Ashley continues the conversation with DesigLA, sharing her path to interiors, stepping out on her own, and why LA’s architectural mix keeps her looking at every project differently.

The Art of Atmosphere will bring together many of the world’s most compelling voices in interior design and architecture, alongside exclusive access to remarkable homes, artist studios, and the creative places that make Los Angeles unlike anywhere else. With an expanded international roster and immersive experiences throughout the city, 2027 promises our most ambitious program yet.

Because investing in the design community remains central to our mission, registration for interior designers and architects will remain $275.
