Although much of these are just staged, there are many very familiar pieces throughout the Mount Vernon mansion! Many very similar pieces of furniture, or even a few of the exact same, have passed through our shop over the years!

When you have new cane put in your chairs at Excel Shop, you have the option to have the new cane stained and/or shellacked. Stain gives the cane color, and can help the cane blend with the wood of the chair. Shellac adds a protective coating to the chairs that extends the lifespan of the cane and helps protect it against moisture and stains from spills.

This client chose to protect her new hand caning with shellac, and forgo adding stain to keep the natural raw cane color.

Have you ever seen a more beautiful wood grain pattern on a tall boy chest of drawers?

The proper name for this is actually a semainier, which is a seven drawer dresser- one drawer for every day of the week. The concept originated in 18th century France, but is continued on today even in modern furniture.

This semainier came to us with mold, a worn finish, and cracking veneer. We addressed all issues, carefully stripped it by hand, refinished it with our signature buttery smooth lacquer top coat, and cleaned up the hardware.

There are some things not worth cutting corners on, and that's refinishing or repairing your furniture!

You don't know how many times we have clients that come to us to have us redo a job done by someone else, because they went with the cheapest option first. After all is said and done, they end up paying more than they would've if they went with us in the first place!
