In 2020, a client approached me with a unique request: to design and build a custom poker table that met their specific needs. As an avid online Texas Hold'em player myself, I happily accepted the challenge. My client frequently hosted tournaments in various locations, so he had been searching for a lightweight yet durable solution that didn't compromise on quality and didn't break the bank.
He had been searching for a professional-grade table that could withstand regular transport while still sleek and stylish. His preferences included wooden rails, stainless steel cupholders, a distinctive fabric design and embedded dealer tray.
After a couple of conversations, I got to work.
I crafted a poker table from two 1/4" plywood sheets, reinforced with a torsion box between the two sheets for added strength and stability. The torsion box design, is a grid of vertical and lateral wood strips, that is used often in workbench's to add rigidity and in this case, minimize weight. To eliminate any hollow sounds, I used styrofoam within the torsion grid.
For the rails, I opted for Baltic Birch plywood and accented the cup holders with Poplar, which gives a nice visual appeal. The choice of purple fabric with the shape of each suit also added a distinctive touch.
The client was thrilled with the final product. The poker table exceeded his expectations, providing a perfect balance of portability, durability, and style. To this day, the table remains a cherished centerpiece for his gaming setup, a testament to the success of our collaboration.
This custom poker table project a prime example of my commitment to understanding and fulfilling my clients' unique requirements. Through collaboration, years of experience, and craftsmanship, we transformed a vision into reality.
