Mention an old blue-green canning jar and most people immediately think Ball.
But look a little closer.
These are ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐ฃ๐๐ซ๐ฌ, and theyโre a wonderful reminder that Ball wasnโt the only name preserving gardens, kitchens and summer harvests generations ago.
The smaller jar is a quart, shown alongside its much larger 1/2 gallon companion, and both still have their old zinc metal screw lids with the 'A' mark..
And if you look closely at the glass, youโll notice something else:

Today we tend to think of those things as imperfections.
In old glass, theyโre part of the character.
They remind you that these weren't made to sit on a decorating shelf. They were working household piecesโfilled with tomatoes, beans, peaches, pickles and whatever else somebody wanted to save for winter.
Now they can have an entirely different second life: displayed in an old kitchen, filled with flowers, incorporated into primitive dรฉcorโor given to the person who appreciates early household and canning history.
