High Point Market, you were worth the 11 hour trip.

Getting from Boston to North Carolina was an adventure and just about every travel delay imaginable. But once we finally arrived, it was a whirlwind of the very best kind.

We sat on EVERYTHING. We touched tested considered critique asked questions to 1 million photos and walked approximately 100 miles.

And we had so much fun.

We felt inspired beyond belief, full of new ideas and more excited than ever to bring beautiful, interesting thoughtfully, design designed spaces to our clients.

So what did we see? A LOT. Here’s our round up of the colors, materials details and ideas. They caught our attention.

Black furniture is getting a little jewelry. Brass accents, hardware, and unexpected metallic details like the stretcher on this counter stool brings warmth and sophistication. It’s a combination that feels both timeless and fresh.

A color combination we’re seeing everywhere and we’re here for it. From powder blue with chocolate brown to deep navy with warm walnut. The possibilities are endless. It’s a combination that feels grounded, layered and versatile.

Purple is growing up. We’re seeing rich aubergines, dusty, mauves, and muddy plums that feel sophisticated rather than Sweet. These shades, bring depth, warmth, and a little unexpected drama.

Green isn’t going anywhere. From earthy olives to deep forest greens and soft sages, the range keeps expanding. It’s practically neutral at this point and we’re here for it.

An unexpected color combination that somehow feels completely natural. All those deep plums with all those earthy greens.

Never have I ever placed a sofa at an angle. But there’s a first for everything, and I am obsessed with this first.

The office is a funky-shaped room that called for an equally funky layout, and turning the sofa was exactly what it needed. It works with the architecture instead of fighting it and gave us the perfect little spot behind it for a tree.

And then there’s everything around it. The dreamy art full of character and personality. The contrasting green trim. The incredibly subtly patterned wallpaper that covers nearly every surface somehow becomes the quietest, most interesting backdrop.

Unique rooms need unexpected solutions.

This. This is what I want every room we design to feel like.

Not a showroom. Not a collection of perfectly coordinated things. A space that tells you something about the people who live there.

The books they’ve read. The people they love. The things they’ve collected and held onto for years.

Our job is to find a way to bring all of those things together so the room feels beautiful, interesting and, most importantly, like them.

Because the best things in a room usually aren’t the things we bought for it.

If you’ve been watching our stories lately, you know that we have been on a photoshoot rampage. Hanging out with quite a bit this fall. So, it’s another reveal from a brand new project AND it’s our first-ever dedicated arts and crafts space.

Although calling it an arts and crafts space might be selling it short. This big, hardworking table is just as ready for Play-Doh as it is for Monopoly, homework, snacks or whatever the kids dream up next.

We added comfortable (and colorful) seating, a pair of playful plug-in sconces, and a little art gallery to inspire all those who join the fun.

Playrooms are real life. And real life comes with a lot of toys.

The color, the whimsy, the chaos. We know the toys are going to do a lot of the decorating, but that doesn’t mean the room itself can’t feel a little more buttoned up.

For this project we added a bold wall color to ground the space, beautiful roman shades to soften and finish it, and functional furniture that makes cleanup a whole lot easier. Then we called Caitlin at CAITLIN MCBRIDE | HOME & HARMONY to help organize all the toys (and the other toys).

A room that looks good, works hard and still lets kids be kids.

The power of paint, basement edition.

Basements tend to come with a lot of things we didn’t exactly ask for. Soffits. Bump-outs. Strange ceiling changes. Nooks, corners and approximately 47 different planes.

One of our favorite ways to quiet all of that architecture is to paint every surface the same color. Walls, ceiling, trim and doors. Suddenly your eye stops registering every change in plane and the whole room feels more intentional, finished and elevated.

But here’s the important part: we wouldn’t choose white.

Basements naturally have less light, which means more shadows. On white, those shadows make every soffit, corner and ceiling change read as a slightly different color, even when they’re all painted exactly the same thing. A mid-tone or deeper color absorbs those shifts much more gracefully and lets the awkward architecture disappear.

A rule of thumb for all rooms (basements included): paint dark rooms with dark colors. Paint light rooms with light colors.

And because we know you’re going to ask: Benjamin Moore Puritan Gray HC-164. Eggshell on the walls, flat on the ceiling and semi-gloss on the trim and doors.

Same color. Every surface. Three different sheens.

Step aside and - we think we have discovered the handsomest boy around. The first little peek at our Sageview Project starts with Finn. Look at him!!! And then look at those custom cabinets.

Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, a mix of warm wood and painted finishes, new tile, an enormous amount of very well-hidden storage and the kind of function a hardworking mudroom actually needs. Checkout the before (same exact angle, love when that happens) and we’ll give the room itself a proper introduction later this month.

But for now, Finn. Look at that face!

It’s sweater weather. Officially October. Let’s cozy up.

We’re ready for all of it. Layers, warm lighting, good textiles, rooms that make you want to stay awhile and apparently a team dress code we didn’t discuss in advance (neutrals, sweaters, always).
