What do you call the color of these chairs? Blue? Green? Teal? Turquoise? Aqua?

Whatever the answer, we’re into it. Especially paired with warm oak, crisp white millwork, and texture layered everywhere.

It’s sunroom season. The season of morning coffee with the windows cracked, rainy day reading, afternoon naps that accidentally turn into two hours, iced drinks, card games, plants thriving, dogs sunbathing, and pretending you’re outdoors without dealing with bugs.

And if you don’t have a sunroom? We highly recommend dreaming about one. We are.

As we get closer to the finish line of a new build beach house (can’t wait for you to see it), we’re looking back at our OG new build beach house. One of our favorite custom carpentry moments from that project, and honestly of all time, are these bunk beds.

The upper guard rails are wide enough to hold a phone, book, or water bottle. The drawers start approximately 30" from the headboard so a chest can slide perfectly between the beds for even more storage. And the ladders and rails, the parts that get touched, climbed, stomped on, and leaned against constantly, were done in natural wood so they will hold up beautifully over time.

Built-ins are so much more than pretty. The best ones are deeply thoughtful, tailored to the space, and designed around the way people actually live.

New and old moments from our Winding Project, all tied together by one very important design element: plants.

You know how much we love greenery, and thankfully these clients did too. They trusted us to sprinkle plants into every corner, nook, hallway, and surface we could find. And honestly, the house would not feel the same without them. The layered greenery brings personality, texture, color, movement, and real life into the home. A room can be beautiful without plants. But it feels far more alive with them.

Meet the behind-the-scenes masters. The operations team. The women who keep Gray Oak Studio running every single day.

Joni and Laura are the calm in the chaos, the trackers of all the things, the problem solvers, the follower-uppers, the schedule jugglers, and often the reason projects continue moving forward when things get complicated. They manage an unbelievable number of moving pieces with patience, organization, and a whole lot of care.

Gray Oak simply does not run without them. And we’re very lucky they’re ours.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. And plant in every space makes a home feel full of grace. The latter is not technically a saying, but maybe it should be?

I love the subtly blue planked ceiling. I love the art. But the real magic in this room is the greenery. The leaning, Dr. Seuss-style fiddle leaf fig. The vintage plant shelf packed with life. Plants bring movement, personality, and that little spark that makes a room feel truly alive.

We are getting asked to add game tables more than almost any other request right now. Dare we say it? It’s the year of the game table. Maybe even the year of games.

We’ve seen a steady return to the screen-free fun of the past. Mahjong. Puzzles. Scrabble. Monopoly. And my personal favorite: Ticket to Ride. There’s something about gathering around a table at the end of the day that just feels wonderfully wholesome.

It’s time for a good old fashioned before and after.

This informal dining area in our Deer Project may not have changed structurally, but the feeling of the space is completely different. The woven texture on the table base, the black contrast of the chairs, the softer window treatments, and the sculptural lighting all work together to make the space feel brighter, calmer, and more elevated without losing the casual, everyday functionality this family needed.

Art has become one of the things our clients and followers know us for most. And we’re so grateful for it. To us, art is the finishing layer that takes a room from beautiful to truly special. It brings color, character, mood, and personality into a home.

In our Southview Project, art shaped every space differently. In the primary bedroom, it helped complete a full room transformation. In the kitchen, the updates were simple: new pendants and thoughtfully placed art, but the impact changed the entire space. In the dining room, layering artwork over wallpaper added depth and a collected feel that makes the space come alive, something neither the wallpaper nor the art could fully achieve on its own.

Finding the right pieces is a process. We take our time and treat it as an entirely separate layer of the design. We work with clients to uncover both the personal connection and the style itself. Maine, dogs, the beach. Photography, abstract, watercolor, botanical. Then we source from a long list of artists near and far to find pieces that feel meaningful, personal, and right for the home.

It’s not just a reveal day, it’s a powder room reveal day. Powder rooms are the most fun rooms in the house. They’re small, isolated spaces that guests experience in short bursts, making them the perfect opportunity to lean into bold pattern, moody color, or unexpected texture without overwhelming the rest of the home.

Here, the wallpaper is definitely the moment between the rich color and pattern. We love how it peeks through the brass mirror frame. The natural oak vanity and woven roman shades adds warmth and keeps the space grounded. Cozy, dramatic, timeless. Goals.
