The representation we love to see!

Aariana Rose Philip is at the Met Gala for the first time, but a mannequin of her body is already inside of the museum.

The Antiguan-American model and musician was the model for one of the 25 mannequins showcased in the “Costume Art” exhibition.

“They scanned my entire body, head to toe,” Philip told Vogue during the red carpet live stream.

“I feel really held and recognized and understood, finally, and valued by my industry that I love and I’ve contributed so much to,” she said. “And it feels like a homecoming, almost. It feels very full circle, and it feels very aligned.”

Great news for Wisconsin! 🏳️‍⚧️👏👏

History was just made in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

Camden Hargrove has been elected to the Menomonie City Council— becoming only the second out Black trans man ever elected to public office in the United States. 🏳️‍⚧️

He's not just making history as a Black trans man in elected office. He's doing it in a small rural Wisconsin town, proof that LGBTQ+ leaders can and do win everywhere.

Camden has spent his career fighting for the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, public education, and marginalized communities at every level. Now he'll do it from inside the halls of power in his own hometown.

We are so proud of Camden and the community in Menomonie that chose him. This is exactly why representation matters, and why we never stop fighting for it. 💪

Yesterday’s Big Gay Market was a whirlwind of a day, and not just because of the windy conditions 🌬️😘
We had an amazing time chatting with customers, some of whom downright melted our hearts with the genuine,kind things they said about our creations. 🥹
As artists who try to only create things we enjoy making rather than what we think will sell, markets are a nerve wrecking time to test that decision. Making things that come from the heart means our work won’t speak to everyone, but for those that connect with our creations, our work sings loud! 🥰🌈 Thank you to those kind humans who took the time to affirm us and our art as they shopped in a market full of other talented artists. We are humbled and honored to have our colorful creations bring joy to so many.

Check out some recently finished creations we’ve been working on for our upcoming spring markets!
First, a detailed, dramatic hand painted standing mandala decor piece. The second picture shows the depth of the piece and also the sunset was throwing some fun light. ☀️
Second is a new collection of mini canvas magnets that are hand painted/drawn and full of spirit! 👻 (hah, get it?)
Third is an ever-growing collection of felt magnets, featuring ghosts of many shades, funky antique buttons, and even a few sassy swear words! Abbey has now made over 100 of these cute magnets, each one uniquely made with felt, thread, and beads/buttons sourced secondhand.
Next, you’ll see one of the 8”x8” canvas creations Haley has made using some new markers from to remind you that it is possible to be both soft AND brave… because sometimes that can be hard to remember.
Last but very importantly is the next place you will find these creations (and many more) for sale- at our outdoor booth at The Big Gay Spring Market on 3/29 from 10-4 at the Wisconsin Rugby Complex in Cottage Grove. See you there!! 🌈

Just because the media has been covering all the other awful things happening in the US doesn’t mean that DHS and ICE have stopped terrorizing our immigrant communities. Knowing that there have been multiple sightings of agents operating in WI, we wanted to do something to help our community protect one other. Many folks have been acquiring whistles to use in the event of ICE sightings, but we haven’t seen as much information spread about how to use the whistles most effectively. That led Haley to create this design (both in English and Spanish) explaining the whistle code being used by communities all over the US to notify neighbors either of sightings of ICE agents or active detention of community members. We are the guardrails now. Our politicians are failing to prevent a total authoritarian takeover of the US that has funded monstrous acts of vi0lence all over the world. Most of the major media outlets can no longer be trusted to show us the truth. There is duty and power in community- we saw it in Minnesota, Chicago, LA, and now in Vermont and Maine. We owe it to our neighbors to be ready to protect them.
Our goal is to distribute these stickers far and wide in this state, not for profit, but for the protection of our innocent neighbors. If you are a business or organization that would like to give out the stickers at your register, please message us to coordinate details. If you are a Wisconsin resident that would like a few sent your way to hand out to your friends and neighbors, message us with your info and we will send out as many as we can while our supply lasts!

Uh oh, there’s a mini felt magnet infestation at our house! 👻🫐🍆 🫒
Abbey has been conjuring these cute ghosties, fruits, and such from felt, thread, and beads that were all sourced secondhand. ♻️ These newest creations will be available next at The Big Gay Market on 3/15! We hope to see you there!

Did you know the Minnesota state flower - the moccasin flower or lady slipper- is considered a symbol of courage and bravery through hardship, of overcoming struggles and cold winters, and resilience (it takes years to bloom).

I’ve also been told a story of the pink lady slipper flower reminding us of a young woman who set aside her personal discomfort to serve the greater community’s good seeking medicine in a snowstorm.

Seems like an appropriate story for the moment.

And the perfect flower to center in this new art. Midwesterners against fascism. Forever.
