One year ago today, on August 30, 2025, sweet Bella the Store Kitty passed away as I loved on her and told her the story of how a “free” kitty on facebook came to be priceless. She helped my heart through so much and saved the store during the COVID years. She was very sick for her last few months, and we did what we could to keep her going comfortably.
That Saturday morning, we knew it was time. It was still a difficult decision, but her poor body was tired and broken.
Some of you may have been surprised when just two weeks later, I brought Holly into the store. As my mom said, “you took care of Bella, and now it’s time for Holly to take care of you.” I’ve had several customers say that Holly is a replacement for Bella. Honestly, it hurts to hear that. As most other pet owners know, you can never replace an animal, but you can help to fill some of the void they leave behind. Holly needed a home and I had more love to give. Holly has already been healing my heart and making me laugh.
Grief hits differently for everyone. At some point this day will come and go without me noticing it as much. Having lost my soul kitty Sadie in June of this year is making it extra tough. Bella and Sadie were two of the smartest and sweetest cats I have ever known. My life was made fuller for having them, but it is rather empty right now.
Thank you for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Please be kind to those who are grieving, no matter how they choose to grieve. Some of us hold a lot private, but we are still sad on the inside. And that is okay.
